Dato' Sri Shahril started his career in the banking industry and then, he moved on to serve in a few industries before he joined RapidKL in 2006 as their General Manager of Corporate Planning. At RapidKL, Dato' Sri Shahril successfully prepared and implemented the company's first ever ten (10) years Public Transport Strategic Roadmap (Transformation Plan) during his tenure until 2009. In view of his knowledge and experience in the transportation sector, he was later appointed as one of the key members of the Technical Committee to develop the Key Performance Indicators for the Ministry of Transport ('MOT') and was later seconded to the MOT and was appointed the Deputy Leader for the National Key Result Area for Public Transport Lab led by the MOT. At MOT, Dato' Sri Shahril successfully co-led the Urban Public Transport Lab in developing eleven (11) high impact initiatives as a component of the high-profile Government Transformation Program. From October 2009 to October 2010, he was seconded as an Adviser to the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister's Department to assist the Government in setting up the Commission and then Dato' Sri Shahril was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (SPAD), the Commission tasked with spearheading long-term reforms in land-based passenger and goods transportation. After that, he was promoted to be the Group Managing Director of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad ('Prasarana') from October 2010 to December 2014 where he led the Prasarana Group's Business Turnaround Plan and Business Transformation Plan. Moving forward, Dato' Sri Shahril was then appointed as the Chief Executive Officer ('CEO') of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd ('MRT Corp') in January 2015 until December 2018. As a CEO of MRT Corp, he was responsible to oversee and monitor the multibillion MRT Line 1 (Sg. Buloh-Kajang Line) and MRT Line 2 (Sg. Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line) projects development.
