Tengku Zafrul began his career as a corporate finance executive in a merchant bank and subsequently left to join a foreign research house as an investment analyst and rose to be the director. He then became the advisor to the President of Tenaga Nasional Berhad prior to joining the investment banking department of a leading merchant bank. In 2003, Tengku Zafrul joined Avenue Capital Resources Berhad as an Executive Director. He was later re-designated as the Group Managing Director in 2005 and thereafter relinquished his position as the Group Managing Director in April 2006.
