Mr. Soon holds a Degree in Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Accountancy) from the University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. He is a Member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr. Soon brings with him over 37 years experience of being involved in tax and accounting matters, capital fund raising, corporate restructuring and various corporate exercises. He started his career as external auditor in KPMG in 1983. Thereafter, he joined Inchape Eastern and Amway Berhad as Finance Manager and Financial Controller in 1986 and 1993 respectively. He was involved in the IPO exercise for the listing of Amway Berhad on Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad.
In his earlier career path, Mr. Soon has taken up the position as Senior Finance Director of Western Digital and in 2005, he was appointed as Chief Financial Officer of Elken Sdn. Bhd. to take charge of an IPO exercise, regional operation expansion and tax structure reorganisation of the said company.
He has served as the Finance Director cum Company Secretary of Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad (Dutch Lady) from 2007 until 2011. He was the representative of the Board of Directors, Audit Committee, Risk Management, Remuneration and Nominating sub- committees in dealing with a few corporate exercises of Dutch Lady namely the global merger with Friesland Netherlands, regional merger and acquisition, regional controllership and capital market funding for halal manufacturing expansion.
Mr. Soon has also taken up the role as the Group Chief Financial Officer of Hong Leong Industries Berhad and Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad in 2011 and 2017 respectively. His main responsibilities in these two public listed companies were taking charge of privatisation, delisting, issuing private debt, capital funding and corporate restructuring. He joined Fraser & Neave Berhad in 2012 as Chief Financial Officer where he remained until 2017. He was mainly involved in fund raising, corporate acquisition, distributor financing program and setting up treasury management centre of F&N Group. He was the Executive Director, Treasury and Corporate Finance before he left in 2020.
