KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 14): Bursa Malaysia is expected to trade higher next week with investors likely to go on a bargain-hunting mode following last week's losses but progress in the Covid-19 vaccine development will weigh on risk appetite.

Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd economist Adam Mohamed Rahim said the local bourse could expect to see further retracement in the glove counters due to Covid-19 vaccine news.

He also expects small capitalisation stocks to start making a comeback.

“We expect to see the FBM KLCI move between a support level of 1,580 and resistance level of 1,595 next week,” he told Bernama.

Asked whether Malaysia's third-quarter (3Q) gross domestic product (GDP) performance would influence trading next week, he said “it would not because many people have likely priced it in.”

During the week-just-ended, market sentiment was largely influenced by the expansionary Budget 2021 and Pfizer's successful Covid-19 vaccine Phase 3 trial.

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 13): An additional allocation of RM200 million has been provided to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) for the implementation of the stimulus package under the Tourism Rehabilitation Plan for 2021.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri in a statement today said apart from the allocations announced by the Finance Minister during the presentation of the Budget, there were several other provisions under MOTAC specifically to assist the tourism, arts and culture sectors.

"This is expected to stimulate and inject domestic spending consistently and in turn create a multiplier effect, especially for industries linked to the tourism, arts and culture sectors," she said.

She said the stimulus package included accommodation vouchers, tourist destination discounts, family travel package discounts as well as the revitalisation of arts and culture.

"Also included in this recovery plan are transportation discounts, shopping discounts and discount packages for frontliners as well as the ‘Meet in Malaysia Campaign’," she said.

Yesterday, she chaired an online engagement session with tourism and culture industry activists.

Among those involved were Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia, Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners (MAHO) and Malaysian Artistes' Association (Karyawan).

Nancy said the government also understood the situation of industry players who were badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and would work to ensure the industry remained competitive and recovered quickly through various stimulus packages and recovery plans to be implemented based on the announced Budget.

Sudden surge will be the norm probably. Vaccine news also.

Li expects the value-growth reversal to emerge again when one of the vaccine candidates under development is ultimately approved for use.

Even though there’s a long road ahead to widespread adoption of a vaccine, a successful Moderna trial would help cement the rotation into value stocks, small caps and cyclicals, said Solomon Tadesse, head of North American equity quant research at Societe Generale.

INVESTING Investment lecture notes
ByKoon Yew YinPosted on June 3, 2018

Today RHB Investment Ipoh has invited Mr Ooi Teik Bee and I to speak about our methods of share investment. The following is my prepared notes:

Introduction: Easiest way to make money if you know how to do. No worries about all the obstacles in doing business, cash flow etc. Profit is not taxable. Fastest way to lose if you don’t how to invest. There are more losers than winners in the stock market.

1 How I started? In 1983 I started with Rm 200K capital after heart operation in 1983 when HK crashed. At that time I only need bravery – no skill. There were so many cheap sales. Within 3 years I made so much money that bought 46% of Kaiser Stock and Shares Co Ltd. HK.

2 After enjoying huge profit from the HK crash, making money was not so easy. I read about Warren Buffet, Peter Lynch and Benjamin Graham. They all preached value investing. This method was too slow eg currently most property shares are undervalued due to oversupply in Malaysia. If you buy these shares, you have to wait many years for the share price to go higher than your cost.

3 My golden rule: Among all the criteria, such as NTA, Cash flow, dividend yield etc, the most powerful catalyst to move share price is profit growth prospect. My golden rule is the company must have reported 2 consecutive quarter increasing profit and the projected P/E must be below 10. I choose P/E 10 to avoid unforeseen risk. To be really successful, you need practise, confidence and patience to buy and hold for fruits to ripen.

4 Kind of business: I must also know what kind of business the company is doing. I will not buy GLC, oil and gas, Banks, plantation and property shares. You must now check your holdings to see that they comply with my golden rule.

5 My Track Record: I have been using my golden rule to become the 2nd largest shareholder in Latitude and Lii Hen both went up 800% and I was 2nd largest shareholder of VS went up 550%, owning 102 million shares as shown in 2015 annual report. As I said I stared with Rm 200k and now my net worth exceeds Rm 200 million in 35 years, every Rm 1 to Rm 1,000.

6 When to sell: No share can go up or down indefinitely for whatever reason. Don’t sell if it continues to show increasing profit. Sell as soon it shows reduced profit.

7 How to maximise profit? Three persons buy same share at same price and same time can get 3 different result. A day trader will sell when its price has gone up 20 or 30%, a normal investor, would be happy to sell if the price has gone up 100%. But a super investor will not sell as long as the company continues to show increasing profit. That is how I managed to buy so much of Latitude, Lii Hen and VS Ind.

8 Emotion: Our brain has 3 basic function Auto, Emotional and logical. The auto function is to control your breathing and blood circulation. If everyone can control his emotion and think logically, all shares will be fully valued. But that is not the case. That is why you can always find undervalued cheap shares to buy.

9 Beside FA and TA, you must have some business sense to be a good investor. Do not buy or sell blindly. Sometime, even though the FA is not good, but if you know the business you dare to buy. For example: JAKS’ Independent Power Producer business which I shall explain in greater detail. Even though its annual accounts shows a loss, I bought so much shares to become the largest shareholder.

10 Trend – never buy down trend because you don’t know when the price will go higher than your cost for you to sell to make profit.

11 Always buy up trend because you know the price will continue to go higher and you can sell to make money.

12 The smart way to buy and sell. If too many sellers, offer lower price to buy. If you see that there is aggressive buying, you just take the sellers. If you want to sell you offer a higher price if many buyers. If there are too many sellers, you offer a lower price to sell.

13 Use margin finance if you have the experience. Margin finance can help you double your profit. Remember it is a double edge sword. The current interest rate is only 4.8% pa. With the knowledge you have learned today, you should be able to make money than the interest you need to pay.

14 Gadang: I started buying Gadang recently when I see it has been dropping from Rm 1.28 in the last 8/9 months to the current level of 67 sen as shown on the above chart. I believe it has bottom out and beginning its up trend. In any case, the downside risk is limited. It is so cheap, selling P/E 4.

Etc

Mau 10000 syer biasa permaju = 10000 x 20sen = RM2000

5 PA(ICPS@5sen) = 1 syer biasa permaju, Jadi, mau 10000 syer biasa kena beli 50000 permaju PA= 50000 x 4sen (harga semasa) = RM2000

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Kelebihan PA (ICPS):

Warrant: 10000 x 9sen =RM900 (Bayar sekarang)

Kos tambahan untuk convert = 10000 x 25sen (exercise price) = RM2500

PERMAJU INDUSTRY: (MYR0.19) Acquisition to expand into West Malaysian property market
Maybank IB Retail Research

Permaju Industries acquired 100m ordinary shares of Meridian Bhd (MEDA MK, Not Rated), representing 16.97% of issued shares in Meridian, for MYR26m cash or MYR0.26/sh. The acquisition will be funded entirely via internally generated funds. Pursuant to the acquisition, Meridian is now an associate company of Permaju.

At MYR0.26/sh, Permaja is effectively valuing Meridian at a P/B of 1.2x. The acquisition would allow Permaju to expand its property ventures into the West Malaysian market. At present, Permaju’s property projects are mainly located in Sabah. The acquisition would allow both parties to leverage on respective resources, as Meridian is also involved in property development and construction.

That say, execution is key to success. Meridian has been in the red since FY14 while Permaja’s earnings track record has also been volatile. Meridian’s earnings were affected by the subdued property market while Permaju, which has been in the red since FY07, was weighed by high operating costs. Its property and automotive industries are exposed to weak consumer sentiment.

Permaju has been trying to diversify its earnings base in its bid to turn around. In Sep 2020, the group entered into a joint venture (JV) with VSolar Group (VSOL MK, Not Rated) to submit a tender to build and operate a Large Scale Solar 4 (LSS4) proposed 50MW plant in Seremban. It is also in talks with Anzo Holdings (ANZO MK, Not Rated) to collaborate in the manufacturing of gloves.

But until any deal materializes, its outlook will remain subdued. Permaju recorded a loss after tax of MYR6.6m in FY6/20, with its automotive, timber, and property development divisions all in the red. This does not help when the government implements partial or full lockdown to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, which in turn, would hurt the demand for automotive as well as properties.

Valuation wise, P/B methodology is preferred here due to Permaju’s weak earnings track record. At current price, the stock is trading at a trailing P/B of 0.9x, above its 3-year historical average P/B of 0.7x. The only silver lining is that, its net gearing stood at 0.01x at end-Jun 2020. Investors with lower risk appetite should stay on the sidelines for now.

The Group posted revenue of RM5.06 million for the current quarter ended 30 June 2020, which was 9% lower than RM5.55 million recorded in the preceding quarter ended 31 March 2020. The decrease was mainly due to lower orders from contract manufacturer disk drive manufacturing. Sale of solar energy was lower by 11% from RM0.22 million to RM0.20 million mainly due to weather condition.
The Group recorded post-tax loss of RM3.32 million for the current quarter as compared to pre-tax loss of RM8.97 million recorded in the preceding quarter. Pre-tax loss was higher in the preceding quarter mainly due to temporary suspension of the Group’s operations for approximately 2 weeks following the compliance to the Movement Control Order, coupled with RM1.3 million impairment loss on property, plant and equipment, RM1.1 million mark-to-market loss on investment in quoted shares, impairment loss on receivables and inventories.
