Ringgit on Weakening Path as USD/MYR Enters Uptrend -- Market Talk

0049 GMT [Dow Jones] USD/MYR has entered the daily Bollinger uptrend channel. Contingent on a Wednesday closing above 4.2030, the bullish technical signal may encourage bets on a stronger U.S. dollar, thereby a weaker Malaysia ringgit. The catalyst for USD/MYR's rise is two-pronged. General risk aversion triggered by the overnight slide of stocks on Wall Street has propped up the safe-haven U.S. dollar against risky currencies. The retreat of crude oil, which surrendered its previous day's gains, is the other reason that USD/MYR is up. The ringgit is susceptible to movements in oil prices because Malaysia exports a significant volume of oil, which affects its trade balance but also the government's revenues. USD/MYR could be headed for the daily Ichimoku Cloud resistance zone at 4.3035 if the Bollinger uptrend channel is confirmed today. USD/MYR is now 4.2200 from its Tuesday close of 4.1980.
