HLT Global, which is involved in the manufacturing of glove-dipping machines and rubber gloves, reported a 2Q20 PATMI of MYR4.9m (+66% YoY; +87% QoQ). Excluding one-off net loss, its 2Q20 core net profit rose 84% YoY. For the 6M20 period, however, its core net profit was only 12% YoY higher at MYR4.7m, as 1Q20 results included MYR2.7m one-off net gains (mainly reversal of impairment loss and forex gains). No dividend was declared for the current quarter.

The stronger 1H20 results were mainly attributable to stronger contribution from its rubber glove segment. For the 6M20 period, its rubber glove division recorded a PBT of approximately MYR2m vs. a loss before tax of MYR1.6m a year ago, thanks to increase in average selling price arising from overwhelming demand of gloves during Covid-19 pandemic. Notably, its glove-dipping segment also saw its PBT rising 45% attributable to better performance in both sales of new lines as well as upgrading and modification works performed.

Clearly, HLT is one of the beneficiaries of the Covid-19 pandemic. Both its operations benefited from the outbreak, which boosted demand for essential item for medical supplies such as gloves. Meanwhile, its glove-dipping machines division should also benefit from the current strong demand for rubber gloves globally as well as domestically. Although no research houses cover HLT at this juncture, the search for alternative names for glove makers may draw greater interest to this stock.

HLT has returned to profitability in FY19 after slipping into losses in 2017 and 2018. YTD, its share price has risen by 850%, driving valuation to the high side, at >100x annualized earnings on a fully-diluted basis. Warrants are included in EPS computation as they are now in-the-money, another compelling reason to explore this stock. One point to note, as demand for gloves are driven by the Covid-19 pandemic, any news on vaccine could create volatility in HLT’s earnings and share price performance.
