simple ways to maintain a minimum nominal level of cardio-vascular (i.e. aerobic) fitness:
skipping rope, jogging on the spot (can even be done while showering, but just be extra careful so that you do not slip on the wet floor), power walking 2 - 3 times a week (at intensity appropriate for your age and fitness level), swimming
jogging also good, but it is relatively high impact, so perhaps not suitable for those with knee or lower back problems
