Indonesia AirAsia and Tigerair Mandala have unveiled plans for further international expansion, with both low-cost carriers in particular targeting the Indonesia-Hong Kong market. Indonesia AirAsia, which is already the largest carrier in the Indonesian international market, is also planning to launch services to Vietnam and India.

Tigerair Mandala has announced the launch of services to Hong Kong from Bali and Surabaya from Dec-2013, supplementing its relatively new Jakarta-Hong Kong route. Indonesia AirAsia is preparing to also launch Surabaya-Hong Kong service in 2014 and is looking at serving Hong Kong from Medan.

The AirAsia expansion could result in the carrier widening the gap in Indonesia’s international market over Lion Air, which is the dominant player in the Indonesian domestic market but has been slower in pursuing international expansion. The forthcoming expansion from Mandala could also result in Tigerair overtaking Lion as a larger LCC group in Indonesia’s international market.

KUCHING: Malindo Air will suspend its Kuala Lumpur-Miri route starting next month, barely four months after its inaugural flight to the resort city.

The reason for the suspension is unknown.

Malindo had commenced its once-a-day flight to Miri with much fanfare on June 14.

It is also learnt that the airline had also suspended its KL-Tawau sector, which was launched on June 26.

A source from the airline yesterday confirmed the suspicion of travellers and customers who noticed something amiss when they tried to book KL-Miri and Miri-KL flights in November.

Hahahahahaha, hehehehehe, wakakakakakakak ;-)

AirAsia India receives NOC from MoCA

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) yesterday cleared AirAsia Berhad’s proposal to start an airline in India with Tata Sons Ltd and Arun Bhatia of Telestra Tradeplace Pvt Ltd, eight months after the airline sought permission from the India government, as per a Mint report. “The proposal has been cleared. AirAsia has been granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC),” a senior MoCA official said late yesterday evening. Ajit Singh, Minister for Civil Aviation, Government of India, cleared the proposal yesterday afternoon—within a week of the airline receiving a clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The airline will now apply to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for an airline licence, after which it can start flights. The NOC means the airline can also now start importing A320 aircraft to its base in Chennai. The airline wants to start flights this fiscal.
