Broad-based weakness across major revenue lines. Group revenue declined 16.0% yoy
on the back of: a) 22% yoy decline in securities trading revenue (49% of total revenue)
which was broadly in line with a 19% yoy decline in ADV but partly due to the high base
effect of 1Q18’s pre-GE14 ADV; b) 11.7% yoy decline in derivative revenue, in line with the
18.5% yoy and 7.8% yoy contraction in CPO and KLCI Futures contracts traded; and c)
24.2% yoy decline in listing and issuers services fee. That said, we expect an improving IPO
pipeline and better market sentiment in 2H19 to help sustain a gradual sequential recovery
in listing fees and securities trading revenue. However, given the high base effect of 2Q18’s
ADV, we expect Bursa to continue registering yoy contraction in revenue in 2Q19.
Maintain SELL with a higher target price of RM5.50

SAM Engineering & Equipment

(M) Bhd is ramping up production at its facilities in Penang and Singapore this year to fulfil its RM3.1bil order book.

Group chief executive officer Jeffrey Goh said the US$20mil plant in Singapore was being equipped with machinery.

“The plant, which produces engine casing for Airbus and Boeing, should be fully equipped by year-end and fully operational in 2020,” he said.

The nacelle beam production facility at its RM140mil Bukit Minyak plant is equipped with state-of-the-art precision machinery and will employ 200 highly-skilled workers when it is fully operational.

Goh said the short-term market outlook remained positive for the group’s aerospace business, which generates about 60% of its revenue.

According to the recent SEMI forecast, the global fab equipment spending is expected to decline 14% to US$53bil.

The International Data Corp (IDC) report said worldwide smartphone shipments are expected to fall by 0.8% in 2019, with volumes dipping to 1.39 billion.

Sam Engineering, Parent company, Accuron Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Temasek Holdings to focus its resources to pursue opportunities in the growing aerospace and industrial businesses. Even though parts-and-repair is the less glamourous side of the aviation sector, its lucrativeness has attracted original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to expand their presence in this after-sales service industry.

It produces components for plane manufacturers such as Boeing and Airbus. There are not many such producers in this region as it takes years of experience and perfection before the parts can be acceptable to the plane manufacturers. Despite the continued weakness in our equipment business, revenue for the group rose steadily due to the strong aerospace sales.SAM is a subsidiary of Singapore Aerospace Manufacturing, which also owns Aviatron (M) Sdn Bhd in Penang Science Park, Bukit Minyak.

GENTING Bhd, the world's fifth largest casino operator, may sell its 54.8 per cent subsidiary, Asiatic Development Bhd, as the group wants to fully focus on its global gaming business, industry sources said.

Interested parties could include Singapore-based Wilmar International Ltd, PPB Group Bhd or the state-owned Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB).

"Asiatic is Genting's cash cow but its revenue contribution is small compared to the entire group's earnings and the parent sees Asiatic as just another management unit," the source said.

Although crude palm oil prices could rise further, it could also put off potential buyers as the company could be more expensive.

"So it makes good business sense for Genting to drop Asiatic before crude palm oil prices, which are strong at the moment, climb even further," said the source.

Genting head of strategic investments and corporate affairs, Justin Leong, and a PNB spokesperson both declined comment.

As the industry leader, we believe Sam Engineering (BME 3182) will be the prime beneficiary. Its growth outlook remains positive given its strong order book and potential new revenue streams through recent acquisitions.

The outlook for air travel demand is expected to remain strong with consumers spending more on travel and tourism. When there is an exponential growth in demand for air travel, this inevitably drives up the demand for new aircrafts and airports to support this huge influx of volume.

According to projections, global fleet will grow roughly 41% from its current fleet to meet the air travel demand in the next decade. The Asia Pacific region will be contributing to the bulk of growth, accounting for approximately 40% of the global fleet .

Similar to automobiles, all commercial/civil aircrafts are subjected to periodic maintenance checks under a highly regulated environment.
They said that among the local industry players with original equipment manufacturing (OEM) capabilities, were SME Aerospace, CTRM Aero Composite, Airod Sdn Bhd, UMW Aerospace and SAM Engineering & Equipment (M) Berhad.

“These firms have demonstrated their capabilities to meet the stringent global reliability and quality assurance standards.

“Thus, they have been able to break in into the global aerospace supply chain,” said one of them.

KUALA LUMPUR (April 3): Padiberas Nasional Bhd (Bernas), Puspakom Sdn Bhd, Pharmaniaga Bhd and My E.G. Services Bhd are being scrutinised by a cabinet committee on monopolies, according to domestic trade and consumer affairs minister (KPDNKK) Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Recommendations made by the committee have yet to be submitted to the cabinet, Saifuddin told reporters at a luncheon talk hosted by MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Bhd today.

He added that there were three elements to consider in assessing monopolies, namely whether the policies that allowed for the creation of these monopolies are still relevant, the size of their investments and the economic impact of potentially dismantling them.

"Monopolies are not necessarily bad, but the ones that are bad are those that are inhibiting their competitors, manipulating prices and controlling supply," Saifuddin said.

The cabinet committee, which was established last year, is chaired by Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and includes ministers of the Transport Ministry, Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Ministry, Health Ministry and KPDNKK.

The committee will continue to look at other businesses which are monopolistic that fall under their respective ministries, Saifuddin said.

KUALA LUMPUR: KLCC Property Holdings Bhd (KLCCP) will convert a three-level outlet in its Suria KLCC mall, previously occupied by retailer Parkson, into a “street mall”.

According to KLCCP group chief executive officer Datuk Hashim Wahir, entrepreneurs and start-ups would be able to sell different products in the “street mall”, among which food and beverages will be the main product offerings.

The space will be converted into smaller outlets, said Hashim. He also added that the new tenants will be occupying the outlet spaces by the end of 2019.“This is an opportunity for us to curate the mall to enhance it to the next level. We will transform the ground floor of the outlet into a more open mall, with an exciting experience.“Suria KLCC is actively engaging with the retailers and I am sure they would have a line up of retailers to ensure that the new retail shop lots will be fully occupied,” Hashim told reporters on the sidelines of the Invest Malaysia event yesterday.Parkson was one of Suria KLCC’s earliest tenants since 1998.The lease for the space of more than 120,000 sq ft previously occupied by the retailer has expired. KLCCP’s property portfolios include Suria KLCC, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Kompleks Dayabumi and Menara Maxis.Hashim said that Suria KLCC will see a positive impact on its earnings due to higher net property income contributed by the “street mall” next year. When asked about the allocated amount for the company’s asset enhancement initiatives in 2019, Hashim said “it will be around RM10mil”.
