CIMB RESEARCH:

More leads on ECRL’s job scope
■ The Transport Minister clarifies on the ECRL; comparisons made with original plans.
■ The 600km rail line includes a 50km tunnel and several viaducts similar to the MRT.
■ Still not ruling out opportunities for local contractors. Gamuda remains top pick.

Scope of the ECRL has changed from the original plan
● According to The Edge, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has cited a change in alignment, a longer tunnel link and the weak ringgit as the reasons for the cost of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project jumping to RM55bn from RM29bn.

"The consulting firm previously used a different alignment. Previously the length was 545km, now it is 600km. The ringgit at that time traded at 3.2 against the US$, recently it stood at 4.2 to 4.5," he said.

New alignment includes a tunneling portion
● Comparing an earlier feasibility study conducted by the consulting firm HSS Engineers which showed that the ECRL’s cost should not be more than RM30bn, he added that the project will now feature a 50km tunnel link, compared with 30km previously, and there will be more viaducts as well. The Economic Planning Unit (EPU) of the Prime Minister's Department will explain the details when the alignment and cost is finalised.

A tunnel traversing the Titiwangsa range has been done before
● If a tunnel component for the ECRL is indeed included in the final specifications, this would not be the first time that a tunnel is constructed through the rugged Titiwangsa mountainous range. A 45km tunneling project (with no rail components) was completed in 2014, though this was for the purpose of transferring raw water from Pahang to Selangor. The RM1.3bn water transfer tunnel contract was awarded in 2009 to the Shimizu-Nishimatsu-IJM-UEM consortium (30:30:20:20).

Participation of local contractors?
● Press reports have previously indicated that the recent ECRL MOU does not exclude potential partnerships with, or the participation of, local contractors. Though there have yet to be more leads on this, we believe rail contractors like Gamuda, IJM Corp and WCT are among potential larger cap beneficiaries, especially if ECRL’s alignment includes viaduct portions, similar to the MRT project. We expect tender details in 1H17 as the ECRL is targeted to commence selected phases next year.

Rail is a big theme in 2017
● We reiterate that rail looks likely to shape up to be a big theme in 2017. Gamuda remains our big cap top pick due to its biggest exposure to MRT 1, 2, potentially MRT 3 and the Gemas-JB double tracking. The ECRL could be a sizeable opportunity.

This announcement is dated 4 November 2016.

UEMS wishes to announce that on 4 November 2016, the Company received notification that USCDL and USCAL (collectively “Defendants”) had been served with the NOCC dated 26 October 2016 filed at the Vancouver Registry of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Canada by Magnum. The NOCC alleges breach of an agreement dated 27 March 2015 (“Agency Agreement”) whereby Magnum had been appointed as the sole and exclusive agent for the purpose of selling market residential, non-market residential and strata office strata lots that were to be developed on certain lands and premises located in Canada at:

7960 Alderbridge Way, Richmond, British Columbia;
5333 No. 3 Road, Richmond, British Columbia; and
5411/5491 No. 3 Road, Richmond, British Columbia,
(collectively the “Alderbridge Lands”)

The principal relief sought in the NOCC is a declaration that the Defendants are jointly and severally liable to Magnum for damages on the basis of anticipatory breach, a declaration that the Defendants jointly and severally breached one or more of the terms of the Agency Agreement and are liable to Magnum for damages as a result, and damages in the amount of at least CAD15,139,284.33 (equivalent to RM47,385,959.95 based on an exchange rate of RM3.13 to CAD1.00) (“Claim”) against the Defendants, jointly and severally, with interest and costs.

Based on the initial advice received from its solicitors, the Defendants believe they have a good arguable case to the NOCC and will be vigorously defending it.

The Claim is not expected to have any material financial and operational impact on the UEMS Group.

Charts (technical analysis) don't lie. It is based on the (historic) price movements to interpret the direction (formed by behavior of the market - buyers and sellers towards the stock) of a particular stock.

No system is perfect.

Well, if one based on fundamentals, take for example Gadang (most popularly known in the community on its fundamentals), and hold on to it, the investor would be very unhappy now.

Cheshirecat, just sharing what I know. Do share/correct me (an amateur in this field) if I interpret wrongly.

Today, OWG opened at RM2.39 and closed at RM2.31, only managed to pull back 1 sen from its low of RM2.30. Selling pressure was too strong and the bear wins - a long bearish candle for today! So, downtrend may continue next week.

Be cautious. Buy only when reversal trend is confirmed!

CIMB REPORT (3 November 2016):

CONSTRUCTION
ECRL rolls into the rail theme

■ Domestic rail contracts are booming. Rail could be a major theme in 2017.
■ Over RM70bn worth of rail jobs outside of Klang Valley (ex-MRT, LRT and HSR).
■ RM55bn ECRL is the latest big development; EPCC awarded to a China contractor.
■ New rail projects can still be opened to local players given size and scale.
■ Gamuda is the biggest proxy for growth in rail jobs. Remains our top sector pick.

Rail contracts making a huge comeback
Domestic rail contracts are emerging at an unprecedented pace. The government’s move to implement new double-tracking rail projects and to upgrade existing rail networks on Malaysia’s east coast brings the total value of new non-urban domestic rail contracts to over RM70bn by our estimates. This does not include the earlier approved MRT 2, LRT 3, KL-Singapore HSR and upcoming MRT 3 (Circle line, still under feasibility studies) for the Klang Valley (RM89bn). Rail could be a major theme in 2017.

ECRL as the new big rail initiative
The ECRL MOU to be signed today will confirm the rollout of the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) that will cost RM55bn. Our sources clarify that this project is largely a greenfield double tracking rail project roughly similar to the RM12.5bn (197km) Ipoh-Padang Besar double tracking rail job awarded in 2007. With a total distance of c.600km, it will traverse the states of Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan and serve as a high-impact project under the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) master plan.

ECRL: Three-phased contract led by China’s CCCC and Exim Bank
According to latest press reports in relation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s visit to China, the ECRL will be awarded to China Communications Construction Co. (CCCC). Financing of the RM55bn total cost will be undertaken by the Export-Import Bank of China via a soft loan (20-year repayment). The ECRL is targeted to commence works in 2017 and complete in 2022 (5 years) over three phases - Phase 1: KL-Kuantan, Phase 2: Kuantan-Kuala Terengganu and Phase 3: Kuala Terengganu-Tumpat.

Rail theme too big to ignore
The ECRL MOU will likely include terms that necessitate the involvement of local players, which is good news. Given the scale and duration of the ECRL, the project could be broken down to several packages. At this juncture, local contractors under our coverage that could prequalify include Gamuda, IJM Corp, WCT, MRCB and Sunway.

Gamuda’s extensive experience in the Ipoh-Padang Besar double tracking project may provide a bigger advantage, especially if the ECRL involves tunneling scopes.

Overweight: Gamuda remains the largest rail proxy
We retain our Overweight call on the sector. In our view, if new rail projects are opened up to local contractors (both at turnkey and subcontracting levels), Gamuda should provide the biggest proxy for the growth of this segment. It is our top pick for a rail play.

The group is already a strong contender for a RM1bn package for the Gemas-JB double tracking project and could take on a much larger underground contract for MRT 3, which should conclude its feasibility studies by end-2016. Key downside risk is job delays.

After determined the fundamentally good stock to invest (like OWG), we can make use of technical analysis to determine the timing of when to buy or sell.

Your super high dream "target price" will take awhile to reach - maybe in 3 months, 6 months, 12 months or more...

Meanwhile, share price will fluctuate.
When price move up or down too drastically, there will be "technical corrections".

Use technical analysis to predict the directions of the price movements to make our decision - to buy, to hold or to sell.

We must not have emotional attachment to the stocks we buy. We can sell when it is going downtrend and always buy back later after the correction at a cheaper price.

Happy investing/trading.

8wpwtmt8, next quarter result may be below expectation (don't know, speculation only) as the company have to
1) invest in the development of Komtar theme park facilities
2) no revenue yet until it is launched in late November and December onwards. Advance sales of tickets may not be significant as the theme park has not catch on yet.
3) furthermore, there will be some losses as the results of a small fire early this month.

However, this is only short term.

The real good things are going to start in December onward, one by one.
Well, expect a BIG ANGPOW for CNY 2017.
