Nextnation sees new shareholder
Written by Isabelle Francis of theedgemalaysia.com
Tue Dec 04 2012 9:21:51 AM
PETALING JAYA: Heah Theare Haw has emerged as a new shareholder of Nextnation Communication Bhd with an 8.4% stake after he bought 50 million shares in the mobile technology company via a direct business transaction.
Nextnation closed at 12 sen yesterday, and was one of the top active counters.
Based on filings by the company, Heah would have bought the shares from exiting shareholders Great World Ltd and Hong Kong-based Nutox Ltd, which owned 41.58 million shares and 8.42 million shares respectively in Nextnation.
The largest shareholder of Nextnation remains its CEO and managing director Tey Por Yee, who currently owns a 16.85% stake. Tey hogged the limelight lately when he bought into Protasco Bhd, becoming the single largest shareholder in the construction outfit — holding a 26.81% stake.
Previously Tey and his partner, See Poh Yee, had about 33% of Nextnation under their control but their shareholding was diluted after a 30% private placement and an issue of warrants earlier this year.
The exit of the two foreign investors and the motivation behind Heah’s investment in Nextnation is not known. In September, Singapore-based investor Fast Global Investments Ltd ceased to be a substantial shareholder after selling its two million Nextnation shares. Nexnation has a share base of 251.6 million shares.
Tey is the largest
shareholder of Next-
nation with a 16.85%
stake.
In October, Nextnation completed buying a vacant enterprise lot in Cyberjaya from Cyberview Sdn Bhd for RM18.52 million.
This was shortly after the company announced its first quarter results ended July 31. The company’s net profit had plunged 61% to RM1.3 million from RM3.37 million a year ago due to an exceptional gain from divestment a year ago. The company recorded a gain from the disposal of a subsidiary company and the disposal of a property by a subsidiary company amounting to RM3.4 million and RM1.3 million respectively in the preceding quarter.
Revenue rose 15% to RM16.61 million from RM14.48 million.
For the full year ended, Nextnation recorded a RM5.63 million net profit or 1.89 sen per share versus a loss of RM691,809 the previous year. Revenue was marginally 2% lower at RM62.9million.
Based on yesterday’s closing price of 12 sen, the company, listed on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia, is trading at a price to earnings ratio of 6.3 times. As at July 31, Nextnation had a cash pile of RM3.31 million compared with borrowings amounting to RM5.1 million.
Another notable development at the company was in August, when it tied up with PT Inovisi Infracom Tbk to jointly develop a property project.
Nextnation had told Bursa Malaysia in a filing that subsidiaries of both companies would collaborate with the objective of jointly developing a piece of land measuring 2.39ha in Sepang, Selangor, into a mixed-development project, incorporating a proposed data centre, corporate office and other commercial and retail space.
The project’s first phase, which will have gross development value of about RM80mil, will be developed on a 25:75 basis, with a Nextnation subsidiary holding the majority portion. There will be two phases in the project.
