We fly tomorrow. We live tomorrow. We go to the airports again tomorrow. Not to be disrespectful to those on MH17, but to prove our resolve as a nation!

Our lives are also fragile, even though we are supposedly immune to natural tragedies. This is a fact of our human existence. So, where do we move on from here?

We grew up in schools being taught that we didn't have natural disasters to contend with, so we are somewhat a blessed nation, that we are special compared with other countries. No, we are not. We are as flawed and as gifted as other nations in the world

This is especially true for Malaysians. For decades, we had grown in a relatively peaceful, and "secure" environment. Security had been our utmost priority, and often security came before passion, tension, or even life choices.

We were okay with settling for second best in this country as long as our rice bowl was taken care of, and we were able to drive comfortable cars and live in comfortable homes.

But MH17, if anything, reflects once again how fragile our lives were, just like the rest of the world.

Just because we live in a conflict free zone, in our comfortable homes, does not mean we are immune to seemingly never-ending conflicts, be it in Gaza or Ukraine.

Nobody expected this to happen, and it is terrible wake-up call for the world to start paying attention to conflict zones, and start comprehending that if a region in the world is unsafe, we are all equally, as global citizens, stand to be affected by it.

If we do, we are once again depending on escapism in an effort to justify a terrible tragedy, that quite honestly, had been beyond our comprehension or prediction.

But the ironic fact remains that, if God indeed chose to punish, the people feeling the pain at this moment are family members, frequent flyers, and every one of us having enough sense to realize that regardless of race, religion or creed, the same fate can befell any of us.

Given how religiously righteous many Malaysians think of themselves despite their cultural and religious interpretation, theories have been abundant as to why God chose to "punish" those on the flight or Malaysians on the flight.

Many of us were busy looking for signs behind these unfortunate tragedies- MH370 including- maybe someone above us is trying to tell us something, to covey a message?

In the wee hours July 18, Malaysia woke up to the shocking news that Malaysia Airlines' MH17 flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur had been shot down by ground to air missiles in a conflict-torn Eastern Ukraine territory, close to the Russian border.

As the news sunk in, questions like "why is MAS so unlucky?", "is it a curse?", "I should never fly with MAS again", "Malaysia is doomed" inevitably filtered in.

Selepas analisis dibuat terhadap data satelit menunjukkan kedudukan terakhir pesawat itu di tengah-tengah Lautan Hindi, di barat Perth, Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Razak mengumumkan pada 24 Mac bahawa Penerbangan MH370 "berakhir di selatan Lautan Hindi". – Bernama, 17 April, 2014.

Gerakan mencari melibatkan pelbagai negara dilancarkan untuk mengesan pesawat itu, bermula di Laut China Selatan dan kemudian diperluas ke Selat Melaka serta Laut Andaman dan kini di selatan Lautan Hindi.

Penerbangan MH370, membawa 227 penumpang dan 12 anak kapal berlepas pada 8 Mac dari Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa KL pada 12.41 tengah malam dan hilang daripada imbasan radar kira-kira sejam kemudian ketika terbang di ruang udara Laut China Selatan. Pesawat itu sepatutnya mendarat di Beijing pada 6.30 pagi hari sama.

Bagaimanapun, data dicerap daripada dua misi sebelum ini tidak menemui apa-apa setakat ini.Ia dikerahkan dengan harapan dapat mengesan serpihan pesawat itu di dasar laut, susulan tiada lagi isyarat dikesan oleh alat pengesan pinger ditunda sejak 8 April.

JACC turut menafikan laporan beberapa syarikat media sebelum ini bahawa Bluefin-21 akan mengambil masa antara enam minggu dan dua bulan untuk mengimbas seluruh kawasan pencarian, menegaskan kenyataan itu tidak betul.

Bluefin-21, alat pengesan dilengkapi sonar yang menggunakan bunyi akustik dan peta 3D untuk mengimbas kawasan dasar laut, digerakkan tiga kali sehari bagi pencarian dalam air sejak pertama kali digunakan pada Isnin lepas.

"Peluasan parameter operasi ini membolehkan Bluefin-21 melakukan pencarian di dasar laut pada had yang dijangkakan di kawasan pencarian ketika ini," menurut agensi itu dalam kenyataan.

Phoenix International yang berpangkalan di Amerika Syarikat adalah pemilik dan pengeluar Bluefin-21 dan Bluefin Robotics.

Dalam perkembangan lain, JACC berkata hasil penilaian oleh Phoenix International dengan bantuan Bluefin Robotics mendapati wujud risiko kecil tetapi pada tahap boleh diterima bagi penggunaan Kenderaan Dalam Air Automatik (AUV) dikenali Bluefin-21, pada kedalaman melebihi 4,500 meter.

Pada Isnin, Ketua Penyelaras JACC Ketua Marsyal Udara (B) Angus Houston berkata dalam sidang media bahawa tompokan minyak itu ditemui kira-kira 5,500m dalam kawasan isyarat 'ping' dikesan sebelum itu oleh alat pengesan pinger ditunda yang digunakan Ocean Shield.

Tompokan minyak dikesan Ahad lepas oleh kapal pertahanan Australia Ocean Shield di selatan Lautan Hindi, kawasan pencarian pesawat Malaysia yang hilang, bukan minyak pesawat atau cecair hidraulik.

Pusat Penyelarasan Bersama Agensi (JACC), yang menyelia operasi mencari pesawat Malaysia Airlines MH370, berkata perkara itu disahkan berdasarkan analisis awal dilakukan pada sampel diambil di kawasan pencarian yang tiba di Perth pagi ini.

Namun, yang selalu saja menjadi keprihatinan bersama, haruskah semangat dan tindakan ke arah penyatuan itu menunggu kedatangan dan kehadiran mapaletaka?

Kemudian timbul pendapat yang menyatakan bahawa malapetaka atau bencana yang melahirkan penderitaan dan kebimbangan merupakan tunas-tunas kepada tumbuhnya penyatuan.
