Manufacturers Association (MARGMA), Denis Low reiterated that as the COVID-19 rages
across the World and has since then affecting more than a hundred thousand people, it is
our duty to further step up productivity to cater to this enormous requirements for
protective medical gloves.
The COVID-19 has heightened its intensity going by the number of countries (158) being
affected and the death toll (6,515 to date) is rising too. As Malaysia is the largest
manufacturer of rubber medical gloves, we owe the greater Humanity of the World a
service and we shall re-strategize to ensure supply is adequate, at least to those severely
affected areas.
In response to the Prime Minister’s announcement on the two weeks Movement Control
Order starting from March 18 to 31 to deal with the rise in COVID-19 cases, MARGMA
believes the intentions to be good and timely to ensure better containment of this
rampaging CoronaVirus in our country and curtailing people movements is a necessity.
MARGMA is also agreeable that certain essential services and industry be allowed to
operate as they are providing critical products and services. In this same vein, the Rubber
Glove Industry (RGI) will need to continue to produce medical and surgical gloves which are
very essential and critical items in the fight against the CoronaVirus.
MARGMA and its members play significant roles in providing essential protective gear
during this pandemic. Malaysia has a responsibility to the Humanity of the World as the
leading producer of medical gloves and supplying almost 65% of global demand. We export
to 190 countries globally. We have a duty and we must not let the World faces any chronic
shortages of this important healthcare product.
In being able to rise up to the occasion and produce sufficient quantities, we are also
seeking the Government’s understanding that the service providers and raw materials and
packaging suppliers to the Rubber Glove Industry to be allowed to operate too as without
the raw materials, chemicals, and packaging materials, freight and logistics services, it
would be impossible for gloves to be produced.
Any halt of the production & administrative segments of our industry would mean an
absolute stoppage to glove manufacturing and it will be disastrous to the World. Hence, we
must continue to produce responsibly and adequately to protect all the healthcare
personnel staffs ranging from surgeons, doctors to nurses, para-medicals, and volunteers
too. Not to mention the usage by the community at large, to prevent community acquired
infections.
We understand that already there are concerns and apprehension by the healthcare sectors
World-wide about this suggestion of a total lock-down in Malaysia and MARGMA hopes to
allay their fear about this possibility. We stand committed to produce and to assist doctors
and healthcare staff in the fight to contain this deadly coronavirus and we shall stand firm
and not neglect our duty to safe-guard the wellbeing of all Humanity.
While it is a huge challenge for the industry to cope with such high demand in a rather
difficult situation, but our members are committed to support this combat of the pandemic.
We expect the World’s demand for natural and synthetic rubber medical gloves to be about
345 billion pieces this year while it was only 298 billion in 2019. Malaysia is looking to export
about 65% or about 225 billion pieces or more depending on the spread and duration of
COVID-19.

When I knew China starting to take action lockdown city, oil price sure heavy drop so ald sold out all hib last month. now another bomb has come from US and other countries. the economist estimate oil price will drop to USD30 when covid-19 starting infection at US, latest news, WHO escalates risk assessment of Covid-19 to “very high”, this is the reason why now share ald very cheap but i no interest buy-in. of course, next week OPEX and Russia have a meeting to discuss cut production output to try help oil price.
