KUALA LUMPUR (June 13): SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd (SKPetro) shares topped the actively traded stocks and fell 3.66% this morning after JF Apex Securities Research has downgraded SKPetro to “Sell” with a lower target price of RM1.29 (previously was RM2.75).

At 9.21am, SKPetro fell 6 sen to RM1.58 with 13.63 million shares done.

In a note today, the research house said it was reducing its revenue forecast for FY17 and FY18 by 11.8% and 11.7% respectively due to lower-than-expected new contract wins and orderbook replenishment, contract renegotiations and discounts given to customers.

“We are also slashing EPS forecast for FY17 and FY18 by 53% and 56% on lower margin assumptions
“The reduction in bottomline estimate is higher than upperline due to high portion of fixed costs,” it said.

JF Apex Research said SapuraKencana’s management expects total capex from new offshore development worldwide to be flat at US$81bn and US$86 billion in 2016 and 2017.

It said that as such, significant earnings growth could come as early as FY19 in line with expected higher capex of US$100 billion.

“Potential upside could come from the Energy division should oil prices recover significantly.

“At current oil prices, management expects 4.1 million barrels of oil a day (mmboe) of oil and gas to be lifted in FY17 compared to 4.8 mmboe in FY16,” it said.
