Europe third wave? US started their vaccinations on 14 Dec 20 and are expected to achieve 75% coverage by Aug 21 ie 8+ months and faster than anyone ever expected. Nearly 1.5 million foreign workers in Malaysia screened for Covid-19 ahead of March 31 deadline

PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - With the March 31 deadline nearing, most documented foreign workers in four major economic sectors in Malaysia have been screened for Covid-19, said the Human Resources Minister.

Adding to the soothing news, Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said there was also increasing compliance among the industry players to provide housing for their workers.

So far, nearly 1.5 million foreign workers had been screened with the bulk of them - totalling 1.2 million - being in the manufacturing, construction, plantation and agricultural sectors nationwide, he said.

"The manufacturing, construction, plantation and agricultural sectors contributed to some of the biggest clusters, " he said when contacted on Sunday (March 21).

The ministry had given employers an extension until March 31 to complete the Covid-19 screening on their foreign workers.

Previously, they had until Feb 28 to screen their foreign workers, with a warning that failure to do so could result in their workers' passes not being renewed.

Initially, the ministry limited the Covid-19 screening programme on foreign workers to six states under the red zone category but the government decided to extend it to all states following the effectiveness in curbing the pandemic.

From Feb 1, the government made it mandatory for all foreign workers to be screened for Covid-19 after the emergence of large clusters of infected foreign workers, mainly attributed to poor living conditions.

Note: The above news was in Feb 2021 and yet cases and deaths continued to decline. This is with only 57.1% of the population with at least 1 dose (as at 23/2/21) and yet cases have dropped and deaths are now at single digits (9). And Israel is now opening up and lifting restrictions

Again, the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson (and there are possibly others as well) are 100% effective in preventing Deaths and Hospitalisation. And prevention of death is the ultimate goal of any public health policy

In fact, new cases of infection (which again, has been declining) in Israel does not even matter anymore (likely amongst the non-high risk group (below 50-55 years and without comorbidities / disease) that have NOT been vaccinated). The logic is "If it doesn't kill you, then it is no different than a mild flu"

Vaccinations and Covid-19 cases

As at 22/3/21 based on *Bloomberg's Vaccine Tracker:
1) UK will vaccinate 75% be in July 21. As at 21 Mar 21, the % vaccinated with at least 1 dose **52.5%. From a peak of 1823 deaths on 20 Jan 21, the deaths are now 33 as at 21 Mar 21 (just two months after)

2) US will vaccinate 75% by Aug 21 (if you take 6 months before it will be Jan 21 or 1Q21 - which is also when share prices of US gaming stocks reached pre-covid levels - for some it was 4Q20 - hence the phrase "markets are forward looking 6-12 months). As at 21 Mar 21 the % vaccinated with at least 1 dose is *24.5%. From a peak of 4522 deaths on 12 Jan 21, the deaths are now ***455 as at 21 Mar 21

Israel as at 23 Mar 21 has *57.1% vaccinated - cases most importantly deaths are dropping like a rock (be prepared very soon for the world's media and news outlets to start hailing Israel and their vaccination program and the mRNA vaccines an outright success for weeks and months on end). Israel is the leading real world test case - the markets don't require for all countries to be vaccinated - they can 'see' for themselves - note Malaysia has indicated it will have 50% of vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech

SG and China is Covid-19 free

Malaysia is targeted to complete its vaccination program by end-Dec 21, which is about 4 months behind the US. If you take 6 months before, it will be Jun 21 or 2Q21 - it is not a coincidence that Genting's share price is rising but is still currently below pre-covid 19 levels

Note: 1) The Johnson & Johnson's (J&J) vaccine results are used because it has undergone real world clinical trials in South Africa where 95% of the circulating infections are of the South African '501.V2' variant. **J&J's vaccine is 100% effective against Death and Hospitalizations

2) J&J's vaccine has a lower efficacy rate in the US (Moderate to Severe - 72%) compared to Pfizer-BioNTech (95%) and Moderna's (94%) mRNA vaccines - which means theoretically that the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccine would be even more effective against the South Africa variant

PM Muhyiddin has said there will be no more wholesale lockdown across the country. At the end of the day mortality rate is 0.38%, with the largest cluster being from the Top Glove Teratai cluster and foreign workers and Manufacturing and Construction contributing a large proportion of positive cases. You don't kill the body to save the limb. You cut off the limb so you can continue to live

You have to look at the facts and not just your particular situation or from your own lens. SG, MY, US, UK (and China with regards to tourists) have either contained the pandemic, are seeing drastic declines AND are seeing vaccinations accelerate. These are the countries in which Genting operates and receives it's largest source (if not all) of it's revenue and income

There is light at the end of the tunnel and the world will survive as it has through all the pandemics and catastrophes in history. If you're ever in doubt, know that in the end, the Malaysian mortality rate is 0.38%, and the global mortality rate is 3.4%, and if we assume the worst case and it infects the entire world, still Mankind will survive and not perish. This too shall pass. And if you require confirmation of whether travel and leisure can ever bounce back (and I'll assume you're living in the Klang valley) then go to a cafe on a weekend brunch like today. Places which have been opened for years and were doing pretty good, now you have to queue and wait for 30min-1 hour just to get a seat. As mentioned Genting will not just go back to pre-pandemic levels, it will far exceed those levels

We've shared before that the rerating catalyst RW Las Vegas and its value has not been taken into account by the street (i.e. analysts, institutional funds etc)

If you have access to foreign brokers' research reports, you'll see that it has started...the value of RWLV per Genting share is much more than RM1 :)

Also, JPMorgan has a target price of RM7 for Genting

The same rerating will happen for all the other catalysts mwhich have been shared by many here and which will probably be added to ha ha ha - Celularity (and the entire Life Sciences division), Skyworlds, NY mobile sports betting and full casino license, write back for USD426mil Mashpee - when it was impaired, it led to a de-rating and share price drop) so the reverse should also hold true, should it not :), Genting America's USD500mil insurance claims etc

A year ago, when movement restrictions were imposed to curb the Covid-19 outbreak, Genting Bhd, the holding company with three listed subsidiaries under it, including Genting Malaysia Bhd, was among the biggest casualties of the pandemic-driven market meltdown.
