@ value investor : you are right. The costs associated with Damien is about RM30M after comparing the segmental results between Q2 vs Q1. If they capitalise this cost, this quarterly results would have been a profit not withstanding the RM10M losses from the F&B sales.
I am not so concerned about the losses associated with Damein because I sincerely believe they can recoup it via sales of damein to Pavillion REIT.
But the losses concerning the F&B division of RM 10M is horrible. They should have exited the F&B business. It is not a business that they have a competitive advantage at all.

Thank you very much. I know about the impending sales of damein and the effect it has on GOB share price. But then, this quartet's results have been quite poor. So too is last quarter if without the sales of 2 parcels of leasehold land.

The quarterly results will be out quite soon...based on my understanding of this company, this will be a good quarter.
About the sales of Da'mein, now is a good time to see whether management really cares for their shareholders. If they really care for their shareholders, then, we should expect to see 4 to 5 cents dividends. If not, then, i am really not motivated to keep this counter for long term. Once i make about 20% to 30% gains, i will hive off half of my holdings and buy other counters instead.
Bloody hell, when they have no money for Da'mein, they ask for rights. Now, after selling Da'mein, they don't wanna give dividends.
Fu*k You very much

@ superman99, you are right. The PE of 8 bothers me. It seems at the PE of 8, the investors have already factor in the additional revenue arising from the awards of contracts for both the Malaysia MRT and Singapore MRT line.
Not sure about the earnings visibility for 1 year though...maybe you can enlighten me on this.
But the net profit margin is not very high - despite scoring a sales revenue of RM1.2B, yet the net profit ranges from RM65M to RM70M only...
In comparison, even at RM1.90, Gadang's PE is about 6.5 only..

it depends on your time frame. Kok Onn did say - good business requires time to build. Time is a good friend of a wonderful business and the enemy of a mediocre one. I think Gadang is a wonderful business.
2015-11-20 16:19 | Report Abuse
Correct me if i am wrong. i am not a smart guy afterall.
During the AGM, KokOnn has insisted not to participate in corporate exercise because to him, he wants higher earnings to stream into an existing pool of shares, thus improving the EPS. To him, corporate exercise will serve to dilute the EPS. Hence, this will improve the share price over a period of time. He keeps on mentioning what is the share price for IJM and other big construction giants? RM1 something only...RM1 something only....so, to him - the share price is more important than the knee jerk reaction to the share price following a corporate exercise.
Cannot blame him. He is a business man whilst we are, to a certain extent, sharks looking for a quick bite.
Also, notice how he is very adamant and keep on mentioning he wants to alleviate Gadang to the next level?
If we are looking at the group structure, both the utilities division and Capital City mall provides a source of recurring income to the group. Indeed, the outflows from dividends is just capped at 20% of EPS. I believe this has got to do with Gadang, a construction company, being engaged with Petronas and MRT/ LRT projects - both projects of which is of international standards. ** RAPID will continue despite the slump in oil prices due to the contracts signed with the foreign partners.
Gadang is expected to come up with performance bonds when engaged in those contracts. Hence, to him, money is KING and he wants to sock away as much money as possible in the company. In addition, Dato mentioned that Gadang stands a very good chance to be selected in the forthcoming MRT and RAPID as the selection of contractors are limited to preexisting contractors and the ones who have surpassed the expectation in delivering and adding value during the last round. It seems Gadang has cleared both obstacles. That is why Dato keep on mentioning - to wait for the next 2 months - i.e.; until the end of Dec'15 for more contract wins.
The utilities division is expected to go big. It seems the water treatment plant is build by province basis in Indonesia and provides extremely good margin. However, Indonesia is a relatively high risk country - reminiscent of the olden days of wild wild west. Hence, he keep on mentioning that joining with the right partners will result in huge returns despite huge risk. They may even want to list the Indonesia water division if things go well. But that is something for the future.
Hence, what does this mean for me? It all depends on my time frame. If everything pans out - i think RM2.50 is possible. I will continue to hold - and top up when the share price dip below RM1.80. Some of you may laugh at me. BUt i am a very patient guy - waiting to buy on the sidelines.

In finance and in life, there is a perverted tendency for us to over complicate things...it seems the more complicated the deal is, then there is a towering perception that we will make more money out of it...but for me, if the deal is not simple enough for a simpleton like me to understand, than I will graciously side step the deal...it does not matter if I do not make money out of it...
For me, the safety of principal + a satisfactory return of 30% to 40% a year is good enough...

Use this opportunity to accumulate on weakness...too bad...I pulled the trigger too early...at RM1.75...
But come and think about it...I trwat Gadang as my savings account ...save the money at Gadang - the money is safe and sound ..now just progressively accumulate on weakness - such as this so-called QE tapering that the economics I don't fully understand ...
Then, as the company start to expand and grow...the returns generated will be more than the returns given by the savings account ...

whether you are scared or not...it really depends whether you are investing or trading - if you are trading - then, day to day or even hour to hour movement makes you feel scared.
If you are investing with a time frame of a 1 to 2 years, then the market movement is not important because in the long run, the price of the share will move in lock step with the earnings per share.

@ value investor - about the RM30M losses incurred for Damein, i think there is something happening behind the scene whereby maybe, just maybe, Pavillion REIT ask GOB to absorb the RM30M cost. Maybe that is the reason why they cannot capitalise this RM30M into the property development costs as this is not possible to recoup via sales to Da'mein.
