as selfish as this may sound, i hope Gadang will drop tomorrow.....as this allows buying a good construction company with superb fundamentals....

watch out for Symphony (KLSE: 0016) ~ SymLife holds more than 10% of Symphony shares.

actually, alot of people mention about the RM1.3B order book, the infrastructure business at indonesia, the capital21 project...
but let us not forget Gadang has a JV developing the Knowledge workers village at cyberjaya
for the seminyih land, given that Gadang is a construction company, their profit margin for the property business can be quite high....since they do not need to share a piece of that pie with other contractors.

@ apini, aduii....i buy because i believe in the fundamentals of the company. Each of my investment has a theme to it. Gadang is the Capital 21 profit guarantee. GOB is DaMein + Batu Kawan. SymLife is Sungai long (but god knows when they wanna develop it).
I don't buy with an expectation of getting rich 1 year from now....willing to hold for 2 years...
But this time, i really over invest. But thank god, with own money - no loans. This, I have to admit....

RIP Lee Kuan Yew. How i wish Malaysia is helmed by someone of Lee Kuan Yew's capability. Even though i am born in the 80s, yet i have a tremendous respect for this man and his vision. He single handedly transform Singapore from a backwater village to becoming a first world country with the highest GDP per capita. The same cannot be said of the economic progression of this country. Our leaders lack the courage to make deep structural changes in this country's economy. After 50 years since independence, we are still perceived as a resource driven economy and the recent collapse in oil price has caused KLSE (and our ringgit) to be the worst performer in the region. We need to measure our foreign reserve in Ringgit whilst Singapore's foreign reserve is in USD and the latter is many times bigger than ours. Singapore is now stamping her mark in the aerospace industry. An example is the engine of Boeing 787 is manufactured in Singapore. What about Malaysia? Our proton is still struggling to make decent cars.

@ Brother apini,
Kudos....you seem to be a very wise and talented investor.
Can you help little brother here????
Can you help to jump over to SymLife KLSE thread and just assess my rationality for holding SymLife? Currently, bleeding very heavily for SymLife. Easier still, you can view my comments about SymLife....
Really appreciate your help.....

Sometimes, is it so bloody hard to run SymLife like the way Tambun and Matrix is being run? Just focus on developing properties, sell it off and make money for share holders and minus this and that sort of side business?
Frankly, abit disappointed with this counter.
2015-03-22 19:28 | Report Abuse
not really - what happens is that SymLife has exposure to Symphony via its 11% holdings of Symphony shares (pre-RTO). Hence, assuming if the RTO goes through - the enlarged Symphony group will have the power generation and water business (utility) and minus the oil and gas business of RanHill and minus the existing business process outsourcing. Hence, i think SymLife will be more like a passive investor of the enlarged Symphony group. Just sit down and collect dividend.
I am just afraid that if Symphony is not performing well, then SymLife will need to experience impairment losses (i.e.; impairment on the investments held by SymLife).
It appears that Datuk Azman Yahya and his gang will need to buy out the existing business of Symphony which is the corporate services valued at RM60,0M at his private capacity. According to news paper reports, this corporate service business is quite a stable business - albeit not much growth. Hopefully, Datuk Azman Yahya will not park this corporate service at SymLife but take it at his personal capacity.

adui....why this people cannot be like Tambun/ Matrix.....just focus on building properties and selling them....and making money for the shareholders....? why so many patterns?

from the Chairman's statement, it seems that SymLife will be holding shares in the enlarged new "Symphony group" ~ which is essentially RanHill's existing business in the oil and gas and utility industry. But then, the existing business of Symphony group (which is the BPO portion) will be sold off to Datuk Azman. This BPO business is not very profitable (and is loss making).
THe question now is where will Datuk Azman park this existing BPO business? At his personal capacity or at SymLife??? Hopefully, not at SymLife???
The reason why we should be concerned is because whatever happens to Symphony House will be reflected in SymLife's results as SymLife is holding more than 11% of Symphony House's shares.

come and think about it.
How does Kok Onn benefit from his steering of this company?
(1): open market disposal of his shares
(2): sell his company to another
(3): pay himself a big fat paycheck
But then, from the annual reports/ quarterly reports, (2) & (3) is out of the question. He does not pay himself a big paycheck. Only (1) left which occurs last few days. But then, the amount is not big...less than 150K. So, it is not plausible he is trying to jump ship.

yalor....doing JVs here and there pulak...
what do you think of symphony house (another company owned by Datuk Azman)? I read from Symphony house's annual report that SymLife has quite a significant holding in it?
If Symphony house is going to go under, this will adversely impact on SymLife....

@ apini,
Thank you for your comments. I choose to offload Plenitude and load up on Gadang instead simply because of the Capital 21 profit guarantee. If Icon8888 is right about Gadang CEO being sincere in growing the Gadang consortium, then, I believe that for FY2016 and FY2017, Gadang is able to achieve somewhere in the RM80.0M profit range. So, my plan is to progressively load up on Gadang with whatever spare cash that I have.
2015-03-12 18:25 | Report Abuse
my thinking is very simple...if both counters increase by RM0.50, then, i should use all my funds to buy Gadang since Gadang at RM1.47 will enable me to buy more units and profit more. (funds are limited).
By the way, Gadang profit for FY16 and FY17 should exceed RM75.0M easily.
Assuming each year,
Capital 21 contributions; RM50.0M profit
Electricity/ utility business + plantations: RM10.0M profit
Construction: RM10.0M profit
Existing property development: RM10.0M profit
Should be in the range of RM80.0M profit to RM90.0M profit.
Comparable to PLenitude (since Plenitude net profit is in that range as well) if viewed in profitability range.
But then, when it comes to health of balance sheet and richness of landbanks, Gadang do not measure up to Plenitude.
2015-03-12 16:39 | Report Abuse
Hi guys, i just wanna ask a question. Just bought up Gadang and planning to load up on Gadang by selling Plenitude.
Question:
Which is more important? Earnings or Assets?
It seems that PLenitude is one of those beautiful companies with 50% profit margin, plenty of landbanks at Penang and Selangor and zero debt. But then, i can say - for the next 2 to 3 years, Gadang's earnings will be more than Plenitude given the Capital 21 projects. Gadang's earnings from Capital 21 is virtually all profits. Yet, Gadang does not have much assets (in terms of landbank) compared to PLenitude.
So, which is more important? Earnings or assets (landbank)?

hahaha - the GOB's land at Batu Kawan is just a piece of barren land - nothing on it...GOB is supposed to launch housing projects at the start of this year at Batu Kawan - but then, until now....construction crane punya batang hidung pun tak nampak.... i wonder - they wanna wait until all the shareholders become old...then, baru launch projects? At that time, my seed money can use buy coffin liaw....
At end of this year, their Damein is on full swing - hopefully, can give us some dividends.....

"In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Plenitude proposed to take over Nomad for RM1.25 per share or RM278.84mil via the issuance of 111.55million new Plenitude shares of RM2.50 each".
2015-03-03 11:05 | Report Abuse
just asking, why the price for Plenitude must reach RM2.50?
Is it to avoid arbitrage profit taking?
Like if PLenitude does not reach RM2.50, then, buying Nomad will be a cheaper backdoor access to Plenitude?

where are they going to build their affordable housing? I think it is going to be Sungai Long? Don't think they will go bankrupt anytime soon - but then, i don't know how long the share price will be stuck at that range?

What is all this bickering? Just my 2 cents....even if Gadang falls short of the expected RM75M, say if they achieved RM70.0M, this result is considered spectacular. Now, we see a new era of Gadang, one whereby the property division will fuel its growth and this is champion by Capital City 21. That is why there are multiple projects in the pipeline for the property division.
Let us remember why datuk is selective in bidding for constructions. He wants high profit margin projects. And he can afford to wait since capital 21 is already streaming in all the profits for Gadang. And not to mention the slew of other property projects in the pipeline.
Don't trust me, look at segmental results.
Depending on our time horizon of holding this share. For long term investors, we can continue to look forward to a few more quarters of good results....
