The overall thematics remain intact, but valuations are no longer compelling following the stock’s 26% YTD rally.

What’s New

TDC’s 1Q14 core net profit (excluding Digi dividends) of MYR20m (- 32% YoY, -89% QoQ) represents 16% of our full-year forecast (note that consensus forecasts include Digi dividends, and 4Q13 net profit included a sizable MYR151m tax credit). 1Q14 EBITDA of MYR43m (-12% YoY, -14% QoQ) was 20% of ours and consensus fullyear forecasts respectively.

Revenue declined sequentially (-12% QoQ), led by data (-14% QoQ), and data centre (-8% QoQ). This led to a sequential compression of EBITDA margins (-1ppt QoQ) to 32.4%. 1Q14 tax expense was also higher than expected (11% tax rate against our 5% assumption). Management will host a results call this morning.

What’s Our View

There is generally some degree of volatility in TDC’s quarterly results, as data revenue can be lumpy. Our forecasts are unchanged for now, pending further updates by management.

TDC’s share price is up 26% YTD as investors re-rate the stock on its 1) secular growth prospects and 2) capital management potential. While the overall thematics remain intact, we think valuations are no longer compelling, hence our HOLD rating.

Our MYR4.60 TP is unchanged, based on a sum-of-parts, with 1) the core business valued at MYR3.40 per TDC share based on DCF and 2) its 137.5m Digi shares valued at MYR1.20 per TDC share (based on our MYR5.00 Digi TP).
