He will be gunning for Lionair's market share in Indonesia.

Indonesia will outpace even Malaysia's earnings, almost 4 to 1 for the next 3 years! RM4 TP? well folks, do your homework! hehehehe

Fernandes made the decision in 2011 to set up a more permanent camp in Indonesia after eying its growth potential for years, consisting of such salubrious factors as being home to one the world’s fastest growing consumer markets, as well as the largest string of islands, a landscape compatible with AirAsia’s low-cost business model.

“Airasia Indonesia [had a] stunning performance in June. I now really believe we can be number 1 in Indonesia,” Tony Fernandes tweeted on July 27.

"Prior to the dissolution AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes had been direct in statements to the media, telling Reuters: “The model will work. But I'm not sure our partnership and the way we will run it would necessarily work. We've got to be aligned on that and we're hoping to be aligned. I'm moderately optimistic that we can make it work. If we agree in a couple of weeks time then we just go do it. All our other affiliates have made money, Japan should be no different.”

Mr Fernandes added that if the two companies fail to reach an agreement, “then we’ll have to part ways”. Now Mr Fernandes has demonstrated that."

The Centre for Aviation said that while its ventures grew in India, the Philippines and Japan, the focus this year for AirAsia was to grow the Malaysian, Thai and Indonesian operations. These three are expected to take delivery of 25 aircraft this year, bringing the total fleet of A320 to 138.

In 2011, the number of domestic and international passengers in Indonesia hit 68 million, up more than 65% from two years earlier, according to Indonesia's Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

In Indonesia, AirAsia faces fierce competition from homegrown players, including leader Lion Air, which has close to half of the domestic market by passengers carried, and flag carrier Garuda Indonesia GIAA.JK +2.00% .

"Indonesia is our biggest opportunity, but it's also our biggest challenge," Mr. Fernandes said.

Across all its divisions, AirAsia expects a double-digit-percentage increase in its passenger numbers this year. The budget carrier has outposts in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Japan. Last year, total passengers carried rose 15%, Mr. Fernandes said.

"There's no reason we can't continue growing at this pace," he said.

just for sharing sake:

lukewarm response on AAX ipo - i thought oversubscribed locally?
dissolution of AA Japan - I thought foreigners were happy AA is out of the loss venture with ANA?
Cancellation of aircrafts delivery - I thought AA ordered more planes and repayment til 2026?
increase in lending rate - I thought not recently as per Bernanke and his last FOMC meeting?

Failures - that one is a given. when business no good, its retreat to protect capital, right?

anyway, awaiting your 24 & 25th June news report Bullbear. can tweak (or taper - recent hot word) my TP for AirAsia :)

Lion cannot enter Europe because of safety record. So where does it go? neighbouring countries la. But recent Bali crash will be a grim reminder why Asians can be susceptible when it comes to safety. Looks like people are more concern with cheap tickets sometimes, than lives! Maybe this is the reason why AA is doing well in Indonesia with their currently clean record? :)

According to analyst friends, AirAsiacs growth in Indonesia is very good to say the least. Double digit growth expected til 2016
