UNITED PLANTATION GO FOR RM20.00

Stock

SOMEONE IS SELLING AND JCCL BUY. THE QUESTION IS THE OFFER PRICE THIS TIME. RM2.40, RM2.60 or RM3.60 or RM4.65. THE PARENT COMPANY ALREADY NREARLY CONTROL 90%. SO THE SHARE IN THE MARKET IS GETTING LESS AND LESS.

Stock

Goh mention that this third time around, the offer price will be so good that we will also sell. Why? JCCL simply just needs to buy 7.87% more shares to force a compulsory acquisition. After two failed privatisation manoeuvres in a row, do you think JCCL will afford to let it go up in smoke for the third time after increasing their stakes from 59.1% to 88.04%?” he asks.

“This is why we are willing to share our investment strategy. As a united group, the minority shareholders have the required dissenting votes to thwart any attempt to privatise the company again. All we as an investor want is a commendable offer price close to the EV of RM4.65 a share. In the mid-90s, Nasimuddin came to know that Daimler AG — parent company of Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars — was going to reorganise its distributorship network in Asia, whereby the lucrative importership and distributorship of CCB would be terminated, in exchange for a 49% stake in Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MBM),” he recalls.

Under the deal, CCB was transformed into a Mercedes-Benz dealer with no voting rights in the affairs of MBM, but it would be entitled to fixed dividends amounting to RM22.1 million whenever MBM declares a dividend, Goh explains.

“Seizing the opportunity to be appointed as the approved permit (AP) holder for imported Mercedes-Benz models into Malaysia (as MBM is not a 100% bumiputera-controlled entity), the late Nasimuddin went on a buying spree to acquire a lot of CCB shares in the open market, and made himself and Naza group a substantial shareholder of CCB back then. CCB’s share price surged as high as RM19.50 per share in 1997,” Goh says.

Note that the issued share base of CCB has remained at 100.74 million shares over the past 25 years. But today, CCB is only trading at about RM2.31.

CCB shares climbed trading session last Friday, from RM2.10 to high RM2.38 and close the day at RM2.31 apiece. To recap, in March 2021, Jardine CCL made a fresh bid to privatise CCB — one of the country’s largest dealers of Mercedes-Benz vehicles — at RM2.40 per share or RM241.79 million.

There is something brewing in Pelikan International Corp Bhd that could see the stationary maker selling some of its assets overseas. Yesterday, Pelikan closed 26.4% higher to 46 sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM273mil Its share price soared as much as 53% to 55 sen during intraday trade, and it was on the top three of actively-traded counters on Bursa Malaysia. Sources said Pelikan is in the final stage of discussion to sell some of its assets in Germany that could be worth about €70mil (RM344.5mil) to €100mil (RM492mil). “Pelikan is an asset-rich company and asset monetisation has been on the table since 2016 including a stake in its European unit Pelikan AG.

“The company has also not declared a dividend in a long time and suddenly declare RM0.20, ” a source said.

The source pointed out that the asset monetisation has been accelerated since last year after the emergence of new shareholders in Pelikan, namely, Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd and private equity (PE) firm Ikhlas Capital Singapore Pte Ltd.

Urusharta is Pelikan’s largest shareholder with a 26% stake, which it took over from Lembaga Tabung Haji as part of a rescue plan of the pilgrimage fund. Meanwhile, Ikhlas Capital, which is partly owned by former banker Datuk Seri Nazir Razak, bought a 10% stake in Pelikan in August 2019 for RM21mil or at 39 sen per share.

The history of Pelikan can be traced back to 2005. It was then known as Diperdana Holdings Bhd, which then acquired Pelikan Holding AG and Pelikan Japan KK. This saw the company transforming from a logistics player to a global stationery player. The Pelikan brand from Germany is more than 180 years old and is well know in European Market. This was followed by the acquisition of another German-based stationery maker Herlitz AG in 2010.That resulted in the Malaysian-listed Pelikan becoming a holding company of Pelikan Holdings AG.

Pelikan’s assets include production plants in Germany, Mexico, Colombia and Poland. It has an international procurement centre in Malaysia.

As of March 31, Pelikan’s assets stood at RM1.35bil. Its share price has been trading below net assets per share of 73 sen.

Tin is expected to be on the downward trend going forward as more miners increase production in Europe, supported by strong demand for the metal and in line with the rally on the London Metal Exchange (LME), said a dealer.
“The LME market has been on an upward momentum, breaching the US$30,000-per-tonne level this week,” he told Bernama.
There’s another thing that’s become permanently associated with the commodity since the start of 2021: prices north of $20,000 a tonne. He said the metal’s price will likely hover around US$24,500 to USD$31,500 per tonne. The London Metal Exchange hit 10-year highs of almost $30,243 a tonne on May 6, after starting this year at $20,315. That has made it the outperformer of the LME base metals pack, with a gain of 48% on the year. Tin making a double top and a possible revisit to $22,000 over an extended period.
The local tin price closed at US$30,850 per tonne yesterday, with buying support from Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Europe, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
There is evidently a small steady supply of tin available in Asia thanks to a hub of producers in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, but it is largely stuck there due to ongoing disruption in the container shipping market. China became a net exporter of tin in the last couple of months as it stepped up to supply the world’s .

Since the revenue contribution from tin products for Yunnan Tin Group fell recently, I decided to focus comparing MSC to PTTimah. PTTimah is a largely state-owned enterprise from Indonesia and they are more focused on upstream activities in contrast to MSC's focus on midstream and downstream activity. Despite higher interest rate in Indonesia than Malaysia, PTTimah is getting a more generous valuation on its multiples despite MSC having a stronger growth prospect currently due to all the effort in place. Assuming MSC gets the same EV / EBIT multiple PTTimah is getting, that represents a price of RM5.50. CFFO is used instead of FCFF to determine cash yield because of the volatility in capital expenditure for this industry as a whole. If we compare using the cash yield, MSC at PTTimah's valuation must be at least RM4.70.
