The Johor-based Property Developer KSL Holdings Bhd. is a new entrant to our list, occupying the second spot. The group is led by founder and group managing director Ku Cheng Hai, 62. Cheng Hai’s younger brother, Ku Hwa Seng, is the company’s executive chairman. Together, the Ku family controls over 37% of the company’s shares.

Under Cheng Hai, the company has been turning in decent profits for the last five years. The net profits have been increasing steadily especially over the last three years, rising to RM181.53mil last year from RM127.81mil in 2012, and RM81.25mil in 2011. Last year its earning per share (EPS) was 46.98 sen, nearly double the 26.01 sen achieved in 2009.

KSL is capitalizing on the success of Iskandar Malaysia, where it has most of its landbank. Despite a more challenging outlook facing property developers, KLS is surging ahead. Other than residential units, the company also develops hotels and shopping malls. Its signature project is Johor Bahru is KSL City Mall, where it derives good rental income which contributes significantly to group earning.
