Its price climbs at snail speed in years. But when it drops, it takes on rocket speed. I think its share price won't recover so soon given its negative outlook for 2023.

Anything can happen. Look at the policies being rolled out by the Kedah government. Voters are afraid their livelihood going to be affected like what's happening in Kelantan, Trengganu etc. It is the economy. Understand?

Joking, right? Chinese unlikely to vote for Perikatan which has PAS as a component party member. Just look at Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, Trengganu etc. Nobody wants their "periuk nasi" terminated suddenly.

Poor new management for a start. Wonder if this new young team can pull through the situation and bring company to new height. At least still making small profit. Looking forward to more positive surprises.

They probably themselves have never set their foot on these lands. And funny is that how they can come to know these are authoritarian regimes and what they did. Funny right?

Damage is already done and now they want to review it. Main point is the credibility and confidence towards MM2H cannot be regained easily even though a new or revised program is introduced.

@bhtay23: Yes. It was credited yesterday morning if you have a CDS account carrying your Maybank shares. If nominee account, then one needs to wait few days.

No need to study further. Whoever stands in the election will flop. Gerakan is simply a dead party. What is left is only its name - Gerakan. Problem is it does not GERAK at all after Koh Tsu Koon.

I agreed with @prudentinvstor and @stkoay. One can opt in for DRP shares or cash. As such, the dividend portion for DRP must be included in the dividend yield calculation. Also share price offered under DRP is a discounted price and the potential to make additional capital gain is possibly there.

Huge purchases I mean something like car, house, etc. In case Income Tax Dept request us to substantiate the source of our income on this purchase. Hope my explanation is correct.
2022-12-28 06:03 | Report Abuse
We do not need to declare our dividend income in our tax submission like previous years. It is a single tier reporting system now and we are not entitle to claim tax credit from Income Tax Dept depending on our tax regime. Also the dividend we received is net dividend after tax. But it is good to keep a record of the dividends we received just in case we need to make huge purchases in the future.

For CDS account holder, the dividend is paid on the same day on paid date. For nominee account, the dividend will come to Raukten first and subsequently credited to our account. That will take 2 to 3 working days.

@jeffchan1901: Yes. It is a nominee account with Rakuten. Normally I would transfer the shares to my CDS account after accumulating certain quantity of shares. You are right that for CDS account holder, normally we will go to Boardroom online to perform the DRP acceptance request and pay the relevant fees.

@jasonwong92. I have Rakuten account as well and as such, I received message from Rakuten whenever there is DRP. Hope that should clarify your concern.
2022-12-12 12:28 | Report Abuse
@jasonwong92. Do you mean Dividend Reinvestment Program(DRP)? If it is DRP you are referring to, you do not need to activate anything. Just wait for the DRP announcement to be made by Maybank(if any) and you will receive a message from Rakuten asking for your choice either to receive the dividend in cash or DRP.

Dividend is the true cash we received from investing in equity market. Some companies make good profit but pay lower or no dividend over the years. As an investor, we could only hope for capital gain of which we really gain after disposal. Or else, it is just purrely paper gain.

For a mature financial institution like Maybank, it is easy domestically but difficult regionally or internationally when coming to market expansion.

I thought so. Lower price, higher dividend yield for long term gain. Although it is a free market, it is distorting the market mechanism. It would be more beneficial to have reasonable capital gain with reasonable dividend over the long haul by improving company's performance. Instead of just defending price to maintain dividend yield.

Noticed something interesting? Whenever the price of Maybank going to move up, there's alwasys some small quantity of shares transacted to bring down the price. Very often only 1 share transacted to lower the price. Seems certain party trying to maintain certain low price range. Wondering.

@Heroking. Affin's current dividend should be a generous one-off scale only as it distributes some profits from its disposal of asset owned. However, you are right to point out that it is indeed generous.

I doubt it will happen this time. No single party could command majority any longer because there are too many fragmented small parties. These small parties are the king maker and sorry to say, may hopping will happen. It is sad and bad for Malaysia as a whole to move forward.

No doubt the company is delivery profit year after year. But the performance is not reflected in its stock price. Its price keeps dropping and other technology company's price keeps going north.

@prudentinvestor: That is true. Be greedy when others are fearful. For long term investor, this price averaging method works well if one is discipline enough, i.e. buying consistently over time, reinvest dividend received to accumulate more units, etc.

@DividendGuy6: You have a good point. EPF did start buying lately again. Company is profitable since inception and listing so far. Also the company is handing out dividend yearly even though the amount dividend fluctuates going by its performance. Overall still decent like what you highlighted.

I think stkoay and prudentinvestor have pointed out precisely with historical data in previous date that "Those who have bought prior to 10th April 2020, till today, they have received 149 sen plus 28 sen coming in next month....so, total dividend since then is 177 sen :)". That payout of dividends speak for itself. And it always comes down to one's investing principles: Long or short haul. If one goes back and looks at Maybank's dividend history for the past 10 years+, the payout is rather consistent. As such, holding for long haul makes perfect sense. Question is do you have the appetitte to hold this long? I have and I would.

Notice that Maybank's price is steadily declining for the past weeks from its high of RM9.18+. Any rationale behind such decline? The only possible reason I can think of is the fear of recession that could possibly happen as repoted in many news.
