KUALA LUMPUR: Sumatec Resources Bhd stands to lose up to US$13.064mil (RM52.97mil) as the corporate guarantor for former subsidiary Semua Chemical Shipping Sdn Bhd.

A winding-up petition was served on the company by NFC Labuan Shipleasing I Ltd, to be heard at the High Court on July 28. The petitioner had leased two chemical ships, Semua Perdana and Semua Perkasa, to Semua Chemical Shipping in February 2008 but it terminated the lease in May 2014.

NFC Labuan has now claimed for various payments under the Perdana and Perkasa bareboat charter agreements amounting to US$6.377mil and US$6.687mil respectively.

On April 5, NFC Labuan issued a letter of demand, asking the company to settle the debt within 21 days. Sumatec is contesting the full amount claimed.

Sumatec expects to share the claim settlement with Semua Shipping Sdn Bhd (SSSB) -- a sister company of Semua Chemical Shipping which has also issued a corporate guarantee to the petitioner -- in the event Semua Chemical Shipping is not successful in defending the claim and subsequently unable to settle the claim.

The company, however, has not started any discussion on this with SSSB.

Nexgram Land Sdn Bhd - the property development arm of public-listed Nexgram Holdings Bhd - expects to gain a net profit of RM293 million in the next five years via its mixed development projects in Cyberjaya and Putrajaya.

The company, in a statement Friday, said the projects - including high-end apartments - are expected to kick-off construction works in mid-2015.

Nexgram Land CEO Tey Por Yee said the two projects have been fully sold to MyAngkasa Bina Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Bhd, for total value of about RM1.5 billion.

The Cyberjaya project will contribute net profit of RM262 million while project in Putrajaya would contribute the remaining RM31 million.

Nexgram will build 19 units of commercial shops, one high-end SOVO residence with 360 units, a block of five-star hotel serviced suite with 400 - 495 units and one corporate office building including three-level basement car parks and six-level elevated car parks with a total estimated development area of 1.1 million square feet excluding carpark area.

"The Cyberjaya project had been purchased by MyAngkasa for RM1.1 billion, while the Putrajaya development is a joint project between Nexgram and Top Valley Properties.

"Top Valley is the owner of two acres of Malay reserve land while Nexgram had been engaged as the main contractor to develop the said plot," said Tey.

He said the Putrajaya project was sold to MyAngkasa for RM400 million under a tri-party agreement. Both purchase agreements were inked last December.

The project with the strategic partnership will benefit both Nexgram Land and MyAngkasa, while will also enhance Nexgram Land's future earnings visibility and mark a milestone in the company's diversification into property development.

Tey also said there will be more joint initiatives between them and MyAngkasa in future collaborations and developments around the Klang Valley and nationwide.
