So far HLIB tp didn't disappointed us. Our aim will be preferably toward $5.15

Singapore, 29 Jan 2024 — YTL PowerSeraya Pte. Limited (“YTL PowerSeraya”), a wholly owned
subsidiary of YTL Power International Berhad (“YTL Power International”), has won the first
Request for Proposal (RFP) under EMA’s new Centralised Process framework to develop a
hydrogen-ready CCGT at its Pulau Seraya Power Station (PSPS) site. The framework
strategically coordinates private sector investments to ensure sufficient generation capacity by
2028, safeguarding Singapore’s future energy needs.
The construction of a 600 MW hydrogen-ready CCGT is estimated to cost SGD800 million and is
targeted to be completed by 31st December 202

MQ Research: YTL Corporation – digital and physical infrastructure player

Macquarie Equities Research (MQ Research) recently hosted meetings with Tan Sri Francis Yeoh who is an executive chairman of YTL Corporation (YTL). Among key things discussed include latest development in several projects and business progress in YTL and YTL Power (which YTL has a 56% stake in), such as its bidding involvement in major infrastructure projects, Green Data Centre (GDC) progress in Johor, and the recent KLIA express extension contract, among others.

In addition, YTL’s management foresees steady earnings contribution and improving prospects for its cyclicals business segments in cement, construction and hospitality. Further, MQ Research sees YTL and YTL Power as potentials to be added to the MSCI Global Standard Index in the upcoming index rebalancing on 13 February. Read on for an excerpt of MQ Research’s report dated 26 January 2024…

Company background: MQ Research hosted meetings with YTL’s executive chairman Tan Sri Francis Yeoh for MQ Malaysia Corporate Day in Singapore. YTL has a 56% stake in YTL Power (YTLP MK, not rated), which is developing a 500MW Green Data Centre (GDC) park in Johor, and is partnering with Nvidia Corp to build a 100 megawatt (MW) artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure centre.

Improving cyclicals, growth opportunities: Management sees steady earnings contribution from its utilities division (approximately 70% of revenue) and improving prospects for its cyclicals (e.g. cement, construction, hospitality). YTL is a bidder in major infrastructure projects such as MRT3 and KL-S'pore High Speed Rail.

Growth opportunities in Johor: Phase 1 of the RM1.5bil GDC will commence with 48MW coming online this year. YTL has secured SEA Ltd (32MW) as an anchor tenant. Tan Sri had indicated of a similar partnership that Nvidia has with Lambda and CoreWeave.

ERL extended for 30 years: Following seven years of negotiation, the Express Rail Link (ERL), 45%-owned, has received a 30-year extension for its concession. The new agreement comes with a profit-sharing mechanism, with the government entitled to 30% of earnings when internal rate of return (IRR) exceeds 10%. MQ Research notes ERL fares were unchanged for years since 2002, despite scheduled increases in the original agreement.

RM4bil proceeds from unlocking of assets: In the last three years, the group generated RM4bil proceeds from the sale of its Electranet stake, Dama cement plant and Genting landbank. Management has identified potential RM15bil worth of landbank in Malaysia to be unlocked.

Potential inclusion into the MSCI index: The next MSCI rebalance will be announced on 13 Feb. Macquarie’s Index Strategist sees YTL Corp and YTL Power as potential additions to the MSCI Global Standard Index.


Financials and valuations
For 1Q24 ended Sept, YTL Corp's revenue rose 16% year-on-year (YoY) to RM7.5bil, while net profit grew to RM522mil (vs. RM37mil). Utilities earnings grew 300% due to improved PowerSeraya margins and stronger Singapore dollar, while the cement division benefited from higher vol and stable selling prices. The company is trading at 14x FY24E price-to-earnings ratio (PER) (Bloomberg’s consensus).
