Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank which collapsed recently are small banks in the US. They don't even rank among the top 15 banks. When Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy in 2008, it had more than US$600 billion in assets, probably equivalent to US$1 trillion today. No comparison. Don't pretend that you know a lot of things.

"Melting down of the banking stocks.."
5 years ago Maybank was trading at over RM9 a share and Genting at over RM8. Over the past 5 years, Maybank has dropped just RM1 compared to Genting's drop of RM4. Maybank has consistently paid an average yearly dividend of 55 sen a share over the past 5 years. Which counter has suffered a melt down

Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank are small banks in the US. They don't even rank among the top 15 banks. They aren't JP Morgan Chase or Bank of America and their effect on Malaysia would be negligible I think.

Maybank has been paying yearly dividends in excess of 50 sen a share for over 12 years. Bank failures elsewhere don't mean that local banks would be affected. You really lack economic knowledge.

Sometimes when an opportunity arises, it is better to seize the opportunity and benefit from it. Excluding dividends, RHB Bank went up to as high as RM6.31 over the past 12 months. I would certainly sell some RHB shares should it rise to RM6.30 again before it trades ex-dividend.

@pang72, if I buy 10,000 RHB Bank shares at RM5.67, my brokerage, stamp duties and clearing charges are as follows :---
Brokerage = RM56.70
Stamp duty = RM85.50
Clearing fees = RM17.01
Total charges = RM159.21
If I manage to sell at RN5.72 in the afternoon, total transaction costs would come up to around RM320. Still make RM180, not too bad but unlikely to be repeated everyday.

If the amount of interest to be waived in order to help B40 borrowers is kept below 1% of its earnings for the year, Maybank's share price shouldn't be adversely affected. Poor ASB unit holders also need dividend payout from Maybank. So Maybank investors can rest assured that the help to be extended to B40 group is unlikely to seriously affect its bottom line.

"Look at the banking stocks.. drop like a stone"
@Michael_chan2022 your Genting didn't fare any better. Take Maybank and RHB Bank which I have investments in as comparison. Including the 30 sen dividend, Maybank has fallen by about 20 sen or 2.5% from its recent peak and RHB Bank has fallen by less than 7%, from RM5.80+. Genting has fallen by over 12%. Which counter has dropped like a stone?
