KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 19): The FBM KLCI is expected to end its consolidation phase and trend higher in line with most global markets next week, on the back of a more dovish US Federal Reserve stance, the Scottish referendum results and the People Bank of China’s fresh liquidity injection.

Dr Nazri Khan, Affin IB vice president and chief chartist, said despite US Federal Reserve monetary stance dominating market thinking for most of the session, global stocks had a relatively good time, pricing in the stronger-than-expected USA economy.

Talam returns to black with 2Q net profit RM7.6m
Friday, 19 September 2014 18:09
KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 19): Talam Transform Bhd has returned to black with a net profit of RM7.6 million in the second quarter ended July 31, 2014, from a net loss of RM6.5 million a year ago.

Revenue multiplied 4.55 times to RM88.7 million from RM19.5 million previously.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia, the property developer said the bottomline improvement was mainly due to higher gross profit, other income, and lower finance cost.

However, Talam said the net profit was dampened by the provision for impairment on property development costs of RM46.3 million.

For the half-year period, net loss widened to RM11.8 million versus RM7.4 million in the previous corresponding period, while revenue skyrocketed to RM170.7 million from RM41.3 million a year earlier.

Talam said the widened net loss was affected by higher administrative and other expenses, while its revenue jump was mainly due to the disposal of development lands by its property development and investment division.

“The group will continue to enter into joint ventures with reputable corporations to develop its land banks,” said Talam on its prospects.

However, Talam foresees a challenging financial year ahead due to tougher lending guidelines by Bank Negara Malaysia and increasing construction costs.

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 19): The FBM KLCI tracked global markets’ positive performances today after languishing in the red for the first half of the week, as investors returned after Bank Negara Malaysia and the US Federal Reserve held interest rates, and China eased banking liquidity to boost its economy.

At 5:00 pm market close, the local benchmark index gained 4.17 points or 0.23% to 1,849.49 points. The KLCI exhibited volatile trade in early session, hitting a low of 1,843.35 points.

It climbed back into the positive territory for the most part of the day, thanks to gains in blue chips including Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd, Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd (HLFG), RHB Capital Bhd, and IHH Healthcare Bhd.

Yesterday, the US Federal Reserve’s Chairperson Janet L Yellen said that the interest rates would remain, as employment issues still lingered in the country. Bank Negara Malaysia also retained the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) at 3.25% after the Monetary Policy Committee meeting yesterday.

“It is good news for the local market (to have the OPR maintained). Financing costs will remain,” said Lee.
