Palm oil prices on the benchmark Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange climbed to a one-month high this week as the market continued to rebound from a five-year low seen at the start of this month.

Malaysian palm oil exports jumped more than 30 per cent in the first half of this month from August, according to estimates from cargo surveyors, as a direct benefit of abolishing export taxes.

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 22): Malaysian palm oil futures stretched losses into a second session on Monday to hit a more than one-week low, weighed down by falls in competing markets overseas and further technical correction.

Although palm's demand outlook has brightened, thanks to an export duty cut on its crude grade, as well as anticipation that output may have already peaked in August, traders said the rally in benchmark prices had to be reined in.

Market participants said Malaysian palm oil, which last week notched up a third straight weekly gain, has been overbought after sliding to a five-and-a-half-year low of 1,914 ringgit per tonne on Sept. 2.

OPEC members, many of whom require oil prices at above $100 to meet budgetary needs, will review the organisation's oil output policy at its next meeting on Nov. 27.

Oil production in Libya has fallen to 700,000 barrels per day (bpd), down nearly 20 percent from 870,000 bpd a week ago as its El Sharara oilfield and Zawiya refinery stay closed, a spokesman for the state-run National Oil Corp (NOC) said on Sunday.

Fighting has intensified in southern Libya as soldiers and police clashed in the last few days near the country's biggest oilfield El Sharara. The field was shut last week because of damage to a storage facility at the Zawiya refinery in the north, which it feeds.

The western corridor is today one of the more exciting corridors and the entrance of big developers has changed the property landscape.

Malaysian Market Likely To See Pre-budget Rally Next Week

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia is likely to be bullish next week in the run-up to the Budget 2015, dealers said.

A dealer said the budget expectations were likely to trigger a pre-budget rally and power, healthcare, construction, oil and gas sectors would likely attract investor interests.

Affin Investment Bank vice president/head of retail research, Dr Nazri Khan Adam Khan, said the Budget 2015 (scheduled on Oct 10) and the impending launches

2014 biggest mega initial public offerings 1Malaysia Development Bhd, Iskandar, Weststar and Carimin Bhd should be market-positive.

"We expect these catalysts to attract foreign investor interest and foreign funds to spur Bursa Malaysia," Nazri told Bernama.

As the global stocks rose sharply, he said, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) should make U-turn and rebound.

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 19): The FBM KLCI is expected to end its consolidation phase and trend higher in line with most global markets next week, on the back of a more dovish US Federal Reserve stance, the Scottish referendum results and the People Bank of China’s fresh liquidity injection.

Dr Nazri Khan, Affin IB vice president and chief chartist, said despite US Federal Reserve monetary stance dominating market thinking for most of the session, global stocks had a relatively good time, pricing in the stronger-than-expected USA economy.

He said, on the Asian front, the report that the People’s Bank of China would provide the country’s five biggest commercial banks with Rmb500 billion of liquidity to stimulate flagging growth, would help bolster Asian stocks.

He said investors regarded this action as another small targeted easing move to benefit all interest rate sensitive stocks.
