Fintec Global Bhd is taking up preferred stocks in the operator of the DoubleTree Resort in Penang, Pinnacle Nexus Sdn Bhd, for investment income.

It is subscribing to 10.59 million units of redeemable convertible preference shares (RCPS) issued by Pinnacle Nexus for RM10.59 million.

“The Investment in Pinnacle Nexus provides Fintec with an opportunity to invest in RCPS of Pinnacle Nexus which carry a high, fixed cumulative preferential dividend at a rate of 5.0% per month on the issue price of the RCPS for a period of three (3) years and is convertible into equity of a reputable hotel located in a prime area in Penang,” Fintec said in a stock exchange filing today.

The 316-room resort is located in Batu Ferringhi. In a March valuation report by Raine and Horne International Zaki + Partners Sdn Bhd, the resort was valued at RM240.16 million, Fintec said.

"The investment in Pinnacle Nexus will be funded entirely from the proceeds of the right issue of irredeemable convertible preference shares with warrants, which was received by Fintec on Dec 7, 2017," it added.

The group's shares closed unchanged at 50 sen today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM33.24 million. In the past one year, the stock has retreated over 70%.
