New internal organisation structure at Serba to firm up biz operations

SERBA Dinamik Holdings Bhd is implementing an internal restructuring exercise which culminates in the establishment of a new deputy CEO position.

This follows a realignment exercise of the group’s organisational chart by its board of directors and top management to ensure a more effective global operation which will ultimately enable the group to continue delivering its shareholder’s mandate.

The exercise which entails the appointment of Dr Mohamed Ackiel Mohamed as deputy CEO with effect from today (Oct 1) also sees the appointment of a few key management personnel as heads of region in certain geographic business areas where the global integrated oil & gas (O&G) service provider has strong presence.

These heads of region will report directly to Mohamed Ackiel. This restructuring will also lead to the appointment of new faces to lead the corporate communication and stakeholder relations position, according to the company’s internal statement sighted by FocusM.

Since its inception, Serba Dinamik has expanded to more than 25 countries. With the new structure, the group aims to further solidify its foothold in O&G, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning as well as information and technology (IT) businesses through its strong geographical presence.

Therefore, more focus will be given to overseas operation and territory expansion for global growth.

However, there is no change of the company’s head of finance with Azhan Azmi remaining the group chief financial officer (CFO).

Meanwhile, Serba Dinamik’s founder Datuk Dr Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah will remain as group managing director and CEO whereby he will oversee the entire operations for both domestic and internationally.

At present, Mohamed Ackiel is the company’s senior vice president (special project), a position which sees him leading the companies digital transformations and several key initiatives and projects in the Middle East, Central Asia and Americas.

With a combined industry and academia experience of over 18 years, he is also the deputy chairman of board of governors for University Malaysia of Computer Science and Technology (UNIMY), a higher learning institution which is wholly owned by Serba Dinamik.

In essence, the new organisational structure encompasses both the domestic and global businesses with the ultimate aim of strengthening Serba Dinamik’s business offerings to its clients in addition to improving the group’s internal control and governance.

“As a global integrated O&G outfit, this new structure is a baby step to closely monitor the business and performance of Serba Dinamik,” a company source told FocusM.

As of Sept 30, Serba Dinamik has workforce of 2,926 comprising permanent, long-term and contract employees (project basis) for both its domestic and international operations.

At the close of today’s mid-day trading. Serba Dinamik was down 1 sen or 3.12% to 31 sen with 58.46 million shares traded, thus valuing the company at RM1.16 bil. – Oct 1, 2021

Johnson Controls has also signalled its intention to explore acquiring space in Block7 development as a research and development laboratory for new solutions and technologies in smart city applications.

The announced collaboration is also set to explore financing options for investment partnering for Block 7.

The development of Block 7 is owned by Block 7 Investments LLC, which is 99 per cent-owned by EFIRE Capital Holdings Ltd.

EFIRE is owned by LIWA Investment Holding and Serba Dinamik International with 51 per cent and 49 per cent ownership respectively.

"The Block 7 project will serve as an integrated ecosystem in the capital of the United Arab Emirates that will drive innovation within the field of life sciences and technology. Hence, it will realise a pure convergence of next-gen disruptors that will deliver innovative solutions for a better tomorrow," Serba Dinamik said.

Serba Dinamik group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah said Serba Dinamik envisioned itself as a holistic provider of frontier technologies.

"We seek global specialised experts to fill the gaps to achieve this. Serba Dinamik's own in house expertise in AI, VR/AR, cybersecurity and robotics will complement well with Johnson Controls' expertise to provide a sustainable solution moving forward," he added.

Johnson Controls vice president and general manager (building solutions MEA) Rolando Furlong said the company transformed environments by creating intelligent buildings, energy efficient solutions and integrated infrastructures to power smart cities and communities.

"We are thankful to Serba Dinamik for selecting Johnson Controls as its trusted digital technology advisor for this iconic development. Sustainability and innovation are core elements of our company's strategy and our OpenBlue suite of digital solutions deliver smart, healthy, efficient and resilient spaces," he added.

The innovation hub directly feeds into Abu Dhabi's E11 and E30 major transportation corridors, which are connected to millions of Arab youths in the UAE and beyond.

Once completed by the first quarter of 2023, Block 7 will feature a myriad of co-working spaces, academic institutions, laboratories, research centres, high-end residential community, hotels, retail facilities, E-arena and a digital theme park.

The hub will also adopt a unique approach to design that utilises modular system and adheres to best sustainability practices within its smart infrastructure.

Serba Dinamik in collaboration with Sabah govt to reduce rural digital divide

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 22): Serba Dinamik Group Bhd, a provider of internet access through local satellite technology, has installed the Proof of Concept (POC) for Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) satellite internet access in Kampung Betutai, Tuaran, Sabah to reduce the rural digital divide.

In a statement, Serba Dinamik said the installation was a collaboration project with the Sabah Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (KSTI).

With facilities like this in some community focus areas, the community can enjoy internet data through WiFi facilities for free during a trial period of at least two months.

"The technical testing phase is also supported by the Community Development Leaders Unit (UPPM) of the Chief Minister's Department and local company Bumi Bakti Gemilang Sdn Bhd in providing training and awareness programmes to the local community on space technology in communication matters," it said.

Through the installation of simple and flexible satellite VSAT hardware, Serba Dinamik believes that it can create opportunities to enhance the skills of local talent in the satellite industry.

"This is in line with the wishes of KSTI, the Sabah State Government, Serba Dinamik, and Bumi Bakti Gemilang in providing infrastructure facilities and digital transformation for the Sabah people," it said.

Both companies will announce affordable WiFi data plans for the local community with the introduction of the VSAT Internet SurFiBah! product after testing is completed.

A simple plan for internet data coupons for sales agents will be provided in stages and will collaborate with local agencies such as the State’s Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and UPPM to identify potential areas for satellite internet access for the next phase.
