Reach Energy High Noon
Wednesday, 16 November 2016, 07:52 | Stocks Shares & Markets |
Finally, 730 days from the date of its listing, Reach Energy Bhd shareholders will decide today whether it gets the country's first QA (not counting Hibisicus) or not. The odds look good based on the flurry of Off Market transactions at 75-76 sen including the take out off the two biggest yield players. Why pay a premium (MTD Cap) if the odds are not overwhelming, right?
But until the finally chip is counted, it is only a supposition.
I am taking MTD's view that the promoters of Reach Energy have secured the support of enough votes to bring home its oil. We will find out later today.
Meanwhile, the warrants look really sexy for its 6 years remaining tenor to maturity if the QA is approved, relatively good Black-Scholes mix of leverage/premium. Strike price is at 75 sen. So blue skies or best case scenario, if the price of the ordinary move up towards the base case price of RM1.00, the warrants could deliver quite a powerful punch.

Malaysia sets target of 100,000 EVs by 2020

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is on track to achieve the target of the use of electric vehicles (EVs) to 100,000 by 2020, from between 110 and 120 units currently, thanks to its conducive policies, provision of infrastructure and increased public awareness.
Malaysian Green Technology Corp (GreenTech Malaysia) CEO Ahmad Hadri Haris, said the company has no plans to revise the target set by the government.
Ahmad Hadri said the implementation of conducive policies had attracted more players to invest in the EVs and make them more affordable.
In terms of infrastructure, there were companies which were in the process of installing 25,000 charging stations nationwide, he said.
He added that 100 units of Tesla Model S would be on the road end of next year and would be leased to government-linked companies to promote the use of EVs. – Bernama

Ongkili: 2017 Budget will encourage use of electric vehicles
3 comments Bernama Published 15 Oct 2016, 11:21 pm Updated Today 6:38 am
The 2017 Budget will encourage the use of electric vehicles in the country.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Maximus Ongkili said they plan to increase the number of charging stations to encourage the use of electric vehicles.
"The use of electric vehicles has yet to be expanded as we need to promote infrastructure such as charging stations," he told reporters after launching 'Karnival Yahijau Langkawi 2016' today.
The promotion will involve the Finance Ministry, the Transport Ministry and the International Trade and Industry Ministry.
"The Energy Ministry's's role is to reduce the release of carbon dioxide," said Ongkili.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will table the Budget on Friday.

ConnectCounty A Clearer Picture Emerging
Thursday, 06 October 2016, 11:05 | Stocks Shares & Markets |
This increase in position as reported by Ace Credit is of course good news for those with a skin on the game. With the series of open market transactions, Ace Credit have increased its position in ConnectCounty from 12.636% to 16.082%.
But it does not give you the whole picture of what transpired on 30th September. As I mentioned in my recent blogs, two other DBT transactions took place last month on the 15th and 29th albeit involving the ICPS.
On the 30th, however, 11 million ordinary shares were crossed at 17 sen a piece.
This was not bot by Ace Credit. I am assuming that it was sold to a friendly party. Doesn't really matter as long as it is part of the Group i.e. Chang Choong Ming or Ace Credit are friendly parties. These filings are nothing but in essence the consolidation of various blocks of shares owned or held by the previous substantial shareholder/(s) that are being transferred over to the new parties. I am only interested in knowing what the costs of entry for Ace Credit and Chang Choong Ming. Based on the reported trades in the DBT trades plus the open market purchases on those dates, I see that the current spot price is at a discount to their entry costs.
When this 'share consolidation' exercise is completed, identifying when the next phase of the operations begins is more important. The next phase I speculate would involve a corporate exercise or two that aims at bringing in value to the Company be it via some asset injection or transformation of the direction of business of ConnectCounty. Whatever the details of those deals, one thing is for sure, ConnectCounty share price will have to move upwards.

ACE CREDIT THE NEW SUBSTANTIAL SHAREHOLDER OF CONNECTCOUNTY
CREDIT 29/09/2016
KUALA LUMPUR: ConnectCounty Holdings Bhd saw the surfacing of a new substantial shareholder, ACE Credit (M) Sdn Bhd, as the latter emerged with holdings of 31 million shares representing a direct interest of 12.636%.
According to an exchange filing, the shares were acquired from the open market on Sept 15. On the same date, Ang Chuang Jay and Datuk Ng Aik Kee ceased to be substantial shareholders in the interconnect and cable solutions provider, following the disposal of a total of 31 million shares.
ACE Credit is a subsidiary of ACE Holdings Bhd, an investment holding company involved in capital management and private equity, among others. The company is led by Annie Chang as group managing director, while Tan Sri Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, the former secretary-general of the ministry of foreign affairs, chairs the board.
Other notable names include former Gopeng member of parliament Tan Sri Ting Chew Peh as group advisor.
ACE Holdings is linked to Chang Choon Ming — in which he holds two million shares — whose name has recently surfaced in a few other listed companies as well.
According to a bourse filing dated Sept 13, Chang became a substantial shareholder of Technodex after acquiring 22.55 million shares from the open market, representing a 5.46% stake in the information and communications technology (ICT) services provider.
Technodex has seen its share price surge more than 40% since end-June to close at 16.5 sen yesterday. The stock hit its 52-week high of 17 sen on Aug 29.
Besides the ICT outfit, Chang also emerged as a substantial shareholder of AE Multi Holdings Bhd in August after acquiring 29.25 million shares or 10.92% in the printed circuit board and related products manufacturer.
On Sept 19, The Edge weekly wrote that Chang has already made a mark in the market with some saying he could be the “next big market mover” due to the strong gains seen in Technodex and AE Multi since his emergence.
Other notable shareholders of Ace Holdings include founder and former chairman and chief executive officer of Naza Group Syed Nasimuddin Syed Osman, and Datuk Nik Kamaruddin Ismail, currently a non-independent non-executive director of Petaling Tin Bhd and also served as chairman of FCW Holdings Bhd between 1996 and 1999.
ACE Credit’s entry into ConnectCounty has sparked some interest in the sleepy counter, which saw a lack of activity between July to September 2016 trapped in sideways trading between eight sen and 9.5 sen.
Interest in the company piqued in early September, a week prior to ACE Credit’s buy-in, with the company’s share price touching a three-month high of 13 sen on Sept 15.
Year to date, ConnectCounty’s share price has depreciated 34.29%, underperforming the FBM KLCI’s 1.36% fall during the same period.
ConnectCounty triggered The Edge Markets’ Stocks with Momentum algorithm on Sept 21, following the group’s inking of a distribution agreement with Venus Group Inc for the distribution of charging station products in the US.
The counter closed down 0.5 sen or 4.17% at 11.5 sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM28.43 million.

The launch of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus recently was greeted with overwhelming response, being sold out online even before hitting the stores worldwide.
Many fans of Apple Inc’s (Apple) products were seen queuing up in front of Apple stores to be the first to grab the smartphone with enhanced features such as improved camera, no headphone jack and a water resistant body.
As the US-based technology company prepared for the launch of its next smartphone during its 10th anniversary in 2017 which could be iPhone 8, could semiconductor chipmakers – including suppliers – potentially benefit from more orders in the coming months?
The iPhone 8 is rumoured to have a glass body with a radical design that include an edge-to-edge display, eliminating the top and bottom of the smartphone’s outside frame.
With a complete makeover, the display screen will maximise the interface area of the new smartphone and is poised to be using flexible organic light-emitting diode (OLED) as compared to liquid crystal display (LCD).
Industry players outlined that OLED displays provides amongst others better viewing angles, greater power efficiency to maximise battery life and a faster response time than an LCD for faster refresh rates.
Besides, iPhone 8, a premium model of the next smartphone by Apple could be without the Home button while sensors such as Touch ID and front-facing camera would be fitted in the display.
Market observers noted that Apple had been working on developing touch and display driver integration (TDDI) chips since 2015 and thus, iPhone 8 could be one of the first new device to be using the new technology.
Internally, the iPhone 8 is poised to be installed with 10-nanometre A11 chip processor that would be faster and more efficient.
Apple is also said to be seeking a supplier for wireless charging chips that could enable its smartphone to be charged using long-range wireless charging technology.
Other than that, Apple is predicted to consider using advanced biometric features in its upcoming smartphone models such as facial recognition or iris scanning.
Hence, with more advanced features to be incorporated towards the development of Apple’s next smartphone and other devices, semiconductors players and those along the supply chain might benefit from higher sales orders.
In addition to Apple, other smartphone manufacturers like Samsung Electronics Ltd, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd and LG Electronics Inc are also believed to be lining up new models of new smartphones for launching next year to fight for market share.
As manufacturers are gearing up for their next devices to hit the market next year, those supplying inputs for instance semiconductor chips, processors, sensors as well as wireless components could be in for a good run.

Consumer technology based stocks are likely to suffer more in any downturn. During this period, people tend to allocate more of their money and resources towards necessities i.e. food and pleasurable activities as such travelling. Nevertheless, companies as such Apple should continue to do well especially with upcoming IBM-join-venture service products launches i.e. in medical field wherein iPads may be used to accurately diagnose xRay scans instantly via Watson’s computing capabilities among others.
