The plane was only four months old at the time of the accident.[147] In response, numerous aviation authorities around the world grounded the 737 MAX series, and many airlines followed suit on a voluntary basis. Jan 9, 2021 – Sriwijaya Air Flight 182, a Boeing 737-524 with registration PK-CLC, took off from Jakarta to Pontianak. Roughly four minutes after takeoff and after reaching an altitude of approximately 10,000 feet, it quickly descended and lost radio contact in the Thousand Islands area of the Java Sea. There were 62 people on board consisting of 50 passengers, six operating crew members, and six other crew members traveling as passengers. The cause of the accident is under investigation.[104
