Margin of safety is not by calculation it is by choice . If the estimated FV is say 270 and you want to have 20% safety margin then the entry price 270x80%= 216. There are many ways of estimating FV, my way of doing is taking this year earning as 32 sen assuming 12% of 3 years growth,taking the PE as 8 and add the expected div. of 15 sen then the expected value is about 375 forward 3 years, discounting back to today's price is about 267,my estimated FV for Gadang. The safety margin can cushion the loss if the results turn out not in favour of the assumption, so how wide the safety margin you prefer is your choice.
