Leong Hup sets IPO price at RM1.10 per share BUSINESS Tuesday, 23 Apr 201912:00 AM MYT
Leong Hup targeted to raise up to RM1.2bil from its IPO that includes an offer for sale of shares held by existing shareholders and the issuance of new stocks.
KUALA LUMPUR: MIDF Research remains bullish on Leong Hup International Bhd's 2023 outlook as it anticipates solid demand for chicken and eggs in its various markets.
The research firm said the vertical integration of poultry, eggs, and livestock feed will also offset the downside in 2023.
In addition, the removal of the retail chicken price ceiling after Jun 2023 will benefit Leong Hup by allowing it to pass on higher costs to customers and improve margins.
"We maintain our 'buy' call on Leong Hup. Leong Hup is currently trading at an attractive FY24F PER of 5.5x, compared to its 2BUY call on Leong year historical average PER of 11.5x," said MIDF in a note.
The research firm maintained its target price on the share at 90 sen a share.
Leong Hup saw net profit in the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2022, more than double to RM90.7mil from RM38mil it had registered in the same quarter of 2021.
Revenue for the three months also jumped 28% to RM2.32bil from RM1.81bil previously.
During the quarter under review, Leong Hup's feedmill division's sales volume grew 5% year-on-year to 676,400 metric tonnes, while the utilisation rate increased 2.1ppt to 63.9%.
The group said this was mostly driven by greater output from the Philippines operation, although Indonesia continues to have the greatest production output within the group.
Meanwhile, higher sales in Indonesia and Malaysia increased the group's supply of broiler day-old-chicks.
"The volume of chicken supplied grew by 7.3% y-o-y to 39.8 million birds due to higher supply from operations in Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
"On the other hand, the volume of eggs sold fell by 8.4% y-o-y to 439.6 million eggs mainly due to lower sales from Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia operations," it said.
PETALING JAYA: Integrated poultry and egg producer Leong Hup International Bhd (LHI) is upbeat about prospects in 2023, on the back of the economic resurgence in the countries that it operates.
The group’s financial results for its fourth quarter and full year ended Dec 31, 2022 saw net profit for the quarter soaring by more than two-fold, 139% year-on-year (y-o-y) to be specific, to RM90.7mil from the RM38mil it had registered in the same quarter of 2021.
Revenue for the three months ended Dec 31, 2022 also jumped 28% to RM2.32bil from RM1.81bil previously.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, it said cumulatively for the whole of 2022, the company’s net profit jump was even higher at 156% y-o-y to RM218.9mil against the RM85.4mil posted in the corresponding period of 2021.
This was supported by a 26.4% y-o-y climb in turnover to RM9bil.
Above expectations Our FY23E-FY24E earnings estimates are raised by 9%-10% and we introduce FY25E. Into FY23, we expect LHIB’s operating landscape to improve with Malaysia’s poultry price controls coming to an end in Jul 2023 and expectations for more stable livestock and feed demand in its other respective countries of operations. Our TP is raised to MYR1.00 based on an unchanged 15x FY23E PER. Maintain BUY.

Leong Hup International - Demand expected to remain strong in FY23
AmInvest Publish date: Thu, 02 Mar 2023, 05:39 PM Investment Highlights We keep our BUY call on Leong Hup with the same fair value of RM0.93/share based on FY23F PE of 14x, at parity to its 5-year mean. This also reflects an unchanged neutral ESG rating of 3 stars. We made no changes to our assumptions following an analyst briefing yesterday. These are the key takeaways: To recap, the group registered strong FY22 sales, buoyed by higher contributions from operations in livestock (+27% YoY) and feedmill (+26%) due to higher average selling prices and volumes. Better revenues were seen across all operating markets, including Malaysia (+21% YoY), Singapore (+1.4% YoY), Vietnam (+26% YoY), Indonesia (+34%) and Philippines (+97%).
The group’s FY22 feedmill production stood at 4.2mil tonnes (+4% YoY) with an average utilisation rate of 64% (+0.4%-point). Meanwhile, sales volume of group feed climbed 4% YoY to 2.7mil tonnes.
However, supply volume of broiler day-old chicks (DOC) increased 12% YoY to 554mil chicks, whilst broiler chicken volume rose 15% YoY to 153mil birds.
Also, the group sold 1.7bil eggs during the year, down 6% YoY due to the avian flu in mid-2022 that affected layer birds at several of its farms in Malaysia.
Cost-wise, operating expenses rose 26% YoY, lifted by higher cost of goods sold (+2.5%-point YoY) on heightened raw material cost and inflation. Even so, feedmill industry is a cost-plus business and we reckon LHI’s ability to pass on the extra cost to customers could partly cushion the overall impact.
In terms of capex, LHI has kept its expenditure below RM200mil as there is still ample capacity from the previous spending. Notably, the group intends to prioritise its balance sheet as average borrowing costs have gone up from 3.5% a year ago to 5.5% in tandem with OPR hikes last year, despite borrowings remaining relatively flattish.
Moving forward, given the full reopening of local and regional economies, we expect demand for livestock and poultry to continue being strong in FY23.
The group currently trades at a compelling FY23F PE of 7x, substantially lower than its 5-year average of 13x. Source: AmInvest Research - 2 Mar 2023
