Sunway Pyramid has been voted by the public as Malaysia's 'Most Favourite Mall' in an online voting contest organised by Tourism Malaysia.

Sunway Pyramid chief executive officer H.C. Chan said more than 300 shopping malls in the country competed for the prestigious award.

"We are indeed honoured to receive this award as recognition and acknowledgement that we are on the right track in pitching the mall's strategies," he told reporters at the award presentation ceremony, here, today.

Tourism Malaysia's head of Shopping Secretariat, Mohd Shahrir Mohd Ali, on behalf of Tourism Malaysia acting director-general Datuk Azizan Noordin, presented the award to Chan.

Chan said the online voting contest was conducted for three months from Nov 21 last year to Jan 2, 2012 on the Tourism Malaysia website.

Chan said as an appreciation to the public, Sunway Pyramid would be giving out 2,000 free parking tickets daily on this March 3 and 4 to early birds who visit the shopping mall from 10.30am onwards.

A Bernama check today found that patrons were having a fun time at the mall shopping with their family and friends.

Second-year student at Monash University, Sri Sulastri, 20, said the shopping mall was strategically located and easily accessible to students.

"I really like this place because it has so many shops and so many choices. This is the best place to hang out during my free time," she told Bernama.

Rahimah Rahim, 27, said the uniqueness of the building was one of the main factors that made her visit the mall regularly.

"Here, you not only can shop but can also do ice-skating, and there is the theme park. So, this is the best place to visit or hang out for anyone," she said. -- Bernama
