Biz as usual for DRB-Hicom despite Bahar suit

The legal suit filed by former Chief Executive Officer of Group Lotus Inc, Dany Bahar against DRB-Hicom was an expected case and does not disrupt any turnaround plan laid out for the loss-making sports car maker.

Group Managing Director of DRB-Hicom, Datuk Seri Mohd Khamil Jamil said the conglomerate had expected the suit, and he believed the company has a strong case against Bahar's suit for unfair dismissal.

Mohd Khamil, who declined to divulge further details of the court case, said DRB-Hicom will defend the case and it has been advised by a team of lawyers that the conglomerate has a strong case to defend against Bahar.

"It will not disrupt any of our plans for Lotus. The new management of Lotus is doing very well at the moment," he told reporters after DRB-Hicom's Hari Raya Open House, here today.

Bahar who was terminated in June by DRB-Hicom, the new owner of national car maker Proton Holdings Bhd, filed a 6.7 million pound sterling law suit against the owner of the sports car manufacturer for unfair dismissal.

DRB-Hicom appointed its executive Aslam Farikullah as Lotus new chief operating officer, responsible to turn around the sport car manufacturer.

I believe that DRBHICOM has done the right thing. The position of a CEO is ultimately to deliver results for the Group. If he can't perform, he would have to let go even without a formal dismissal.

The fact that he filed a lawsuit goes to show how immature n incapable of him to grasp reality. My recent handling of some dismissal cases in California, USA enlightened me that even mere excessive spending on one's travelling n unauthorised claims r good enough to prove one's negligence. So, DRBHICOM definitely has the upper hand on the matter.

So, the fact that Bahar could not perform up to expectation; thus, he has to leave.
