KUALA LUMPUR: Digi.Com Bhd's (Digi) shareholders have approved the proposed merger of its and Celcom Axiata Bhd's telecommunication operations at an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) held today.
Digi said the approvals by shareholders of both Digi and Axiata Group Bhd (Celcom's parent company) are among the final steps in the proposed merger approval process after being cleared by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, the Securities Commission Malaysia, and Bursa Malaysia Bhd.
"A formal filing on the outcome of the EGM will be made to Bursa Malaysia once market reopens in the coming week," it said in a statement today.
At completion, Axiata and Digi's parent company Telenor ASA will hold equal ownership of 33.1 per cent each in the newly-merged company, which is proposed to be named Celcom Digi Bhd.
