According to the Alzheimer's Disease Foundation Malaysia, by 2050, the number of older adults in Malaysia living with dementia will rise to 825,000. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, usually accounting for 60-70% of dementia cases. There is currently no cure for this neurodegenerative condition, and many people living with Alzheimer's are cared for by family members, with spouses or adult children being the primary caregivers. What challenges do caregivers face, as they support the individual while the disease progresses? Consultant Neurologist Dr Sherrini Bazir Ahmad, and consultant Psychiatrist Dr Wan Izwin Wan Hassan, join us to shine a spotlight on the impact of Alzheimer's disease on families, as well as the immense efforts contributed by caregivers and how to better support them.
