Jeremy Lim, Secretary, Imagined Malaysia
Why do Malaysians primarily see the world and relate to one another through a racial and religious prism? And if we are a capitalist economy – which we 100% are – why are our economic narratives often incohesive? To understand these two questions properly, we need to look at how Malaysia's political economy has transformed and shifted since our pre-independence days.
Jeremy Lim, secretary of Imagined Malaysia wrote a paper for the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung titled Malaysia's Incomplete Revolution: From Comprador Capitalism to State-Led Development to State-Dependent Development, which details the shifts in Malaysia's political economy over the decades. We speak to Jeremy.
