Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said logistic infrastructure plays an important part to ensure the success of National Semiconductor Strategy with 96% of semiconductor exports reliant on air transport.

KUALA LUMPUR (June 25): The Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (Miti) will be discussing measures with the Transport Ministry to enhance logistics infrastructure, particularly air transport, which is crucial for semiconductor exports.

Noting that logistic infrastructure plays an important part to ensure the success of National Semiconductor Strategy, with 96% of semiconductor exports reliant on air transport, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz acknowledged that numerous challenges remain in the logistics sector.

"For instance, Penang airport, which supports the majority of semiconductor exports, still does not allow Boeing 777 landings, despite several companies expressing their readiness to use the Boeing 777 to support export movements.

"Additionally, the ministry has received several requests to expand Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Senai Airport to meet the demand for semiconductor exports. I will discuss with the MOT to see how we can address these issues," Zafrul said in response to a supplementary question from Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) in the Dewan Rakyat.

Meanwhile, in response to Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu), Zafrul said that the ministry, through the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida), is strategically collaborating with East Coast state governments and related agencies to attract high-quality investments and ensure the continuous growth of the electrical and electronics (E&E) industry.

"Currently, one company in Kelantan is involved in the E&E industry, Rohm Wako Electronics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, with an investment value exceeding RM1.7 billion, creating more than 2,000 job opportunities," Zafrul noted, adding that he hoped the industry will continue to grow in the east coast states.
