When you see a disclaimer that says, “don’t try this at home,” don’t do it.

Influencer David Dobrik is now being sued over the massive excavator used in a social media stunt gone wrong. According to fellow YouTuber Jeff Wittek, he should’ve never been behind the controls of the excavator that almost killed him.

So how did Wittek find himself swinging midair only to suffer serious injuries from the risky stunt?

In lawsuit documents obtained by TMZ, the former Vlog Squad member said he travelled to Utah Lake in Provo, Utah in 2020 with Dobrik and a couple of friends to shoot a video as part of Dobrik’s “social media comeback.”

According to Wittek, the original plan was for Dobrik to operate the excavator and have it at a standstill in the middle of the water, and swing people around with a rope while riding different objects.

But according to TMZ, Wittek claims Dobrik suggested people get swung around by the machine - that he was operating - by only holding the rope and without objects.

When Wittek was next up to take a turn, he says Dobrik swung him around too quickly and when he noticed he was moving the excavator too fast, he slowed down abruptly, causing Wittek to slam into the side of the excavator.

The incident resulted in a slew of serious injuries where he claims he almost lost an eye and even could’ve died.

Wittek is now suing for US$10mil in damages in addition to general negligence and intentional tort.
