A PlayStation 5 (PS5) owner is suing Sony in Illinois federal court in the US for hiding a defect in the gaming console, according to a lawsuit.

Attorneys on behalf of Christina Trejo filed the class action lawsuit against Sony Corporation of America on July 12, alleging that the company knowingly hid a PS5 defect where it powers down suddenly while the user is playing video games.

This often results in loss of saved gameplay.

Trejo’s complaint alleges that Sony was aware of the defect through “warranty repair requests and online consumer complaints.”

Trejo is suing for violation of Illinois’ consumer laws, for breach of warranty and unjust enrichment.

She is also seeking certification of the class action, fees, damages, costs and a jury trial.

This lawsuit follows a previous one against Sony concerning its PS5 consoles.

The lawsuit filed in February 2021 on behalf of Lmarc Turner alleged that the tech company knowingly sells its latest console with defective DualSense controllers, according to IGN.

According to the suit, the controllers’ analog sticks “drift,” or move on their own, during gameplay.
