DUBLIN: A run-down space station inhabited by a society filled with exploitation and poverty: In the sci-fi role-playing console and PC/Mac game Citizen Sleeper, greedy companies hold power and have little regard for the wishes of the population.
Especially badly off on the station are the eponymous Sleepers. These workers are humans who have been trapped by the corporations in a kind of robotic body and linked to artificial intelligence.
As one of these Sleepers who has escaped his slave labour, you must now fend for yourself.
The space station is viewed from above, similar to a tabletop game. On the map, you navigate through places where there are several options to choose from.
For example, you often have to do jobs to ensure your survival and prevent the artificial body from ageing too quickly.
Each of the station's varied inhabitants brings along their own life stories, which give you quests to complete. The decisions you make in the many text-based conversations ultimately determine the end of the game so several playthroughs are possible.
Despite the not always clear map, Citizen Sleeper is above all a relaxing experience. If you don't need fast, challenging battles and would rather concentrate on a story in a relaxed way you should enjoy Citizen Sleeper.
The game is available for Xbox, Switch, PCs and Macs (on Steam) and costs around €17/US$20 .
