iPhone fans, it’s time to get excited because iOS 16 is finally here!

According to 9to5Mac, the new update is accompanied by a new, customisable lock screen for all to enjoy.

So, what’s the deal with this new update?

The thing is for the first time, iPhone users can not only create multiple lock screens with different wallpapers but also change aspects of the interface such as the font, colours, and add widgets, the outlet reported.

The great thing about the new lock screen of iOS 16 is that it’s different but at the same time, feels extremely familiar. It’s all because Apple has kept some of the fundamental aspects of the iOS interface despite the latest changes.

Another customisation that comes with the update is the wallpapers interacting with the time on the lock screen, thanks to artificial intelligence features that identify and separate objects in the images. In addition to various filter options, there are now eight different clock styles iPhone users can choose for the lock screen and you can customise it in any way.

And now, users have the option to add widgets to the lock screen.

But what’s the downside to the great upgrade for iPhone?

Sorry to burst your bubble but, according to the outlet, there are still some things that you can’t change on the iPhone lock screen with iOS 16.

One of those things is the clock, where iPhone users can’t move it around the screen or the widgets and it’s all due to the elements having a fixed grid.

You may ask yourself what’s the reasoning for that?

According to 9to5Mac, when you add widgets to the lock screen, they automatically align to the right or centre of the screen, depending on their size. There’s no way to leave an empty space between one widget and another.

Another thing to keep in mind, the widgets are interactive and the only thing they can do is redirect you to their respective app.

Additionally, with Live Activities, developers will be able to create lock screen cards that are updated in real-time with rich information, which can be useful for viewing details of an Uber ride or sports match. However, this API is yet to be made available for third-party apps, the outlet reported.

All in all, the new update seemingly has an upside and a downside.

But if you were able to check out the new update, you may have noticed that iOS 16 comes with more than just a new lock screen and includes improved Focus mode with new filters, options for editing and unsending iMessages, Passkeys, Live Text for videos, smarter dictation, redesigned Home app, and much more.
