Hartalega: 400 staff test positive for COVID-19, all health protocols enforced strictly

GLOVE maker Hartalega Holdings Bhd said that 400 out of its 8,700 strong employees have been tested positive for COVID-19 to date.

“Majority of the employees were asymptomatic and receiving the necessary care at the Health Ministry’s (MOH) healthcare facilities,” its spokesperson told FocusM.

Recently, there were rumours circulating that several glove makers’ facilities were ravaged by COVID-19 outbreak, with many of its staffers quarantined to curb the spread of the disease.

On that note, Hartalega said that since the pandemic hit the Malaysian shores, the company has implemented stringent precautionary measures across its operations to protect its employees and the community surrounding its premises.

“This includes proactively testing our employees with periodic COVID-19 testing, undertaken at all our facilities.

“We have gone beyond requirements, undertaking three cycles of testing for all 8,700 employees since December last year, with more than 25,000 tests conducted to date,” the spokesperson explained.

Due to the aggressive testing measures, Hartalega had managed to detect positive COVID-19 cases at its premises and had put in place all stringent measures to curb its spread.

“Immediate action was taken to conduct contact tracing and place potential contacts under quarantine for RTK Antigen testing.

“All affected areas have also been disinfected by a professional third-party service provider based on MOH’s standard operating procedure,” the spokesperson stressed.

Among the measures taken by Hartalega include:

  • Stringent entry procedures;
  • Temperature screening at all entry points and high-traffic areas;
  • Provision of masks and mandatory use of hand sanitisers;
  • Comprehensive physical distancing across all premises;
  • Increase in frequency and intensity of cleaning and sanitization;
  • Travel restriction policy for all employees;
  • Mandatory COVID-19 test for vendors and suppliers that enter their premises; and
  • Quarantine and conduct RTK Antigen tests on primary, secondary and at times even tertiary contacts of any suspected cases. – Feb 16, 2021.
