KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 — When Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad retired on Oct 31, 2003 after 22 tumultuous years in power, he was the only prime minister many Malaysians ever knew. A decade later, his critics and supporters alike would not be faulted for wondering if he ever intended to leave the political scene.

Or is he even capable of letting go?

The evidence suggests not. After all he was a significant factor in the downfall of his immediate successor and a major reason why the country’s current prime minister came to power.

The man, now a sprightly 88-year-old, has spent a notable number of years in his 10-year retirement making splashes in the media, headlining events and even taking on the political stage for Barisan Nasional (BN) during the just-concluded May 5 general election.

Despite being retired, observers still accuse Dr Mahathir of leading a faction in the ruling Umno through his son Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, even if the latter’s loss in the vice-presidential race recently led to the conclusion that Team Mahathir’s influence has waned.

His former protege and all-time bitter rival Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim too has agreed that Dr Mahathir still commands a significant following in Umno, if not in Malaysian politics in general

But he blamed this on Dr Mahathir’s successors, saying they had allowed his former boss to remain “in power”.

“Of course Dr Mahathir has done a lot for the party, but today, he is still a very strong force to be reckoned with because there is a lack of courage and leadership in Umno,” the Opposition leader said when approached recently.

He noted it was natural for leaders, when they assume power, to be respectful of Dr Mahathir due to his contributions to the party and the nation.

“But they don’t need to be fearful or submissive to Dr Mahathir because in actuality, he does not represent the Umno ideal,” the Permatang Pauh MP said.

“Any Umno member knows Dr Mahathir, today, continues to represent the same cronyism, corrupt system and family interest but why there is no courage to speak up against him?” the PKR de facto leader said.

He then compared Dr Mahathir to Mahatma Gandhi, saying they were total opposites, calling the former the voice of corruption, cronyism and worst excesses.

“Gandhi’s influence is strong because his is the voice of conscience but Dr Mahathir’s influence is strong because there is no courage, no political will power to stand up against him and his corrupt ideals,” he said.

Dr Mahathir helmed the country for 22 years between 1981 and 2003.

He may have retired but has remained vocal on current issues and often speak out against his successors if he disagrees with their policies.

Just recently, Dr Mahathir took a swipe at Najib’s administration by calling it weak while accusing the administration of bowing down to “unreasonable demands” from extremist groups, especially from the opposition, to remain relevant to the public.

He blamed it on weak support from the people that had resulted in a weak government which led to a “lunatic fringe” holding sway over politics in the country.

His political rival and DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang pointed out that it was Dr Mahathir who was holding sway over politics in the country.

“He is the de facto political leader of Umno and indirectly, the country. Since his return to Umno in the last four years, there are viewpoints that he is the most powerful political figure in Umno, and that Najib will have to take into account his wishes and objectives,” Lim said.

The Gelang Patah MP noted that Dr Mahathir may not exert as much influence when it comes to Malaysians generally as proven by his win in Gelang Patah in the May 5 polls despite Dr Mahathir’s vow to “kuburkan” (bury) him there.

Lim believed Dr Mahathir’s continued influence in Malaysian politics is a bane and not a boon to Malaysia’s nation building in its goal to become a united, successful and competitive nation.

“We can see since the last elections, the country has never been more polarised thanks to him and since he rejoined Umno, his growing influence has impeded the recovery of national institutions and he has been an obstacle for the country to achieve Vision 2020 of a modern and democratic nation,” he said.

“That is the greatest irony of all, he is the greatest obstacle to achieving what he preached and what he advocated,” Lim added.

Dr Mahathir’s supporters, however, beg to differ.

A former civil servant who used to serve in the Prime Minister’s Department during the Mahathir administration said the latter was still influential as he was a visionary leader who thinks ahead of others.

Aiza AR, 42, pointed out that Dr Mahathir had placed Malaysia on the world map due to his iconic skyscraper, the Petronas Twin Towers and his other ambitious projects.

“He launched ambitious projects such as the new administrative centre in Putrajaya and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA),” she said.

“He saw that if we don’t do something such as from the aspect of development, the future will be difficult,” added the civil servant, who had also served during Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s time in government.

She believes the country still needs Dr Mahathir’s advice as “no leaders have been able to match his vision and ideas yet”.

Even 'spiritual' Nik Aziz sees through them: BN has NO intention to lessen your burden!

PAS Mursyidul Am Tuan Guru Nik Aziz Nik Mat has reminded Sungai Limau voters that a vote for BN is a vote to support will more price increases in the future.

“The fuel price hike, Goods and Services Tax and others have proved that UMNO-BN has no intention to lessen the burden of the people in the bottom. They only give out sweeteners called BR1M (Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia) when election is around the corner but they take it back through price hike,” said Nik Aziz in a statement posted in his Facebook.

In the end, Nik Aziz said the people were left to suffer and live under pressure.

“Thus, the voters in Sungai Limau constituency must make the accurate choice to tell that the people are not willing to accept goods price hikes like this. A vote for UMNO-BN is a vote to support price hike,” the former Kelantan Menteri Besar stressed.

There is no reason why anyone should vote for BN - all along they have been cheating , swindling , telling lies, they have no good intention to rule the country but everyone in BN are there to make money for themselves - the poor rakyat remains poor and is getting worst day by day after the election . After the election Najib and Co., are all out to teach a lesson to all the voters just because they vote for the opposition. Even Mukris has openly told the Kedahans why must he support financially to all those who have voted out BN . The only way to teach these morons a lesson is vote them out terribly. Make them lose further. Under Pas rule there wasn't any swindling but now the mother of all swindlers son is here to continue his father's legacy.

...

Jawab Baginda saw;

(Riwayat Ahmad, Abu Daud, Turmudzi, Ibnu Majah)

(1) Sesungguhnya Allah Dzat Yang Mentakdirkan Semua Harga. (Tauhid Af'al)

(2) Sesungguhnya Kenaikan Harga Tidak Mempengaruhi Rezeki Seseorang.

Firman Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala :

" (QS.53:45).

"dan Dia-lah yang memberikan KEKAYAAN dan KECUKUPAN." (QS. 53:48).

Ternyata jawapan kita umumnya BETUL hanya pada soalan no. 1-3.
Tapi, jawapan kita untuk no. 4 (kalau jujur) umumnya mesti KEMISKINAN (jwpn yg salah)
Jawapan versi Allah dalam Al-Qur'an bukan KEMISKINAN, tapi KECUKUPAN...

Maa syaa Allah..!!!

Semoga BERSYUKUR kita bernilai ibadah..
Aamiin Ya Rabbal 'aalamiin.' 

Why are Malays obsessed with SUPREMACY? Is it brainwashing or their own insecurity?

The options for Malays

While the option for Malays might be to seek redress in the alternative front of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) there are certain drawbacks as shown in the run-up and post 13th GE. PR is not only a viable option for Malays but for the Chinese and Indian community as well.

The drawbacks for Malaysians in relying and putting their trust in PR is that they are a disjointed side with disagreements that have not caused them to come together but to emerge splintered.

This is why while a sizeable portion of voters, especially in East Malaysia, see PR as a viable alternative the attractiveness is diminished by the fact that the opposition coalition suffers from disunity.

This is the only reason why BN and UMNO are still in power. But If PR is able to be united and to be in consensus this will pave the way for Malaysians to opt for them as the political force of the future. But the fact is the rift within the three parties within PR is quite serious.

This definitely does put the future of Malaysians in limbo as to their political direction and leadership. They appear to be caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.

The Malays in particular are the real community that is suffering from the backlash between BN and PR like the Malay proverb: “Gajah sama gajah berjuang, pelanduk mati ditengah-tengah” (The elephant fights with the elephant but it is the deer that is caught in between that dies)

Ever since the emergence of PR as a formidable political force, the nation of Malaysia has been in a state of flux as there is a pull by BN and a push by PR at the same time. This has caused no real growth and instead what has transpired is that the nation has stagnated.

Malays hold the key by being in the majority

It is really the Malays by virtue of being the largest group by race that have the strength in numbers to really call the shots. But unfortunately so far they have failed to use their pulling power to vote and to choose and decide for themselves the people that will be able to move them forward.

This is the reason for Malaysia going around in circles and not moving forward in this New Millennium. Malays have to be brave and honest and truthful in wanting to advance and prosper in life and the only way they can do so is to subscribe fully to the tenets and obligations of democracy.

Only by calling a spade a spade and by playing to the rules of the game can the Malays and other races in this country cause Malaysia to move forward and become a Great Nation. The way forward is to shun evil politics and the politics of deceit and go by those who uphold integrity and honesty.

This is the only way Malaysia can drag itself out of the throes of being a failed state. It is really up to the Malays and they hold the key to decide if Malaysia succeeds or fails. It is therefore advisable for them to think rationally, with their heads on their shoulders, and learn to move forward with the other races or face doom.

One thing which we 'normal' NON-Racist, Pakatan supporting or 'Malaysian Malays' really HATE the most about UMNO MALAYS which makes us feel so DISGUSTED with them...

...is how 'UMNO MALAYS' mostly have NO SENSE OF 'SHAME' whatsoever! They have NO PRIDE and NO DIGNITY at all! Which is WHY most of us 'Malaysian Malays' would really love to get rid of them from the face of this earth... in-order to RESTORE the Pride and Dignity to the Malay race once more which UMNO has spoilt and ruin through its own behaviors and actions!

This make sense?

You will never see such pictures of Malays carrying DAP flags in Utusan,Star,Straits Times,Malay Mail.RTM 1 to TV9.The reality on the ground is many Malays voted for DAP in Gelang Patah or else Lim Kit Siang would have lost.

why?

Dear PM,
If your aim is to reduce our country's huge debts, there are plenty of ways to achieve just that. You could stop all your multibillion useless projects, or cut your budget, or workout to earn back every sen that has been swindled by those people in your cabinet and those in power before you. Please do not justify cut in subsidy and new tax system. We are way too smart to digest those BS.

Thank you.

Sincerely
