Despite them needing the deal to be completed, this company has the tendency of dragging and over-negotiate. I should know this, for some reasons.

Just to give one example, in the deal where Proton was to be acquired by DRB-Hicom back in 2012, they were required to reduce their stake in Bank Muamalat to an associate stake. Where is that deal now?

The below statement could be a plan by Geely, but I am not too surprised. For Geely to come out and mention this, there are many hiccups it seems in this deal. One must remember for Geely to come into Malaysia and get a deal done, it has to be FRIENDLY. This is a marriage, not a forced takeover. DRB has appeared many times to say that they will continue to have substantial stake in Proton - hence Geely will still need DRB as a partner.

Geely knows. Because they need to get the support to survive in a tough environment. But does DRB thinks and acts that way? Although, they will know as well.

It now goes back to who needs who more. DRB needs to get rid of Proton as it is bleeding more than RM1 billion a year and getting to a 'path of no return' i.e. oblivion. The only way is for it to survive is to do a deal or government to impose taxes which is even higher than the ones during Mahathir days.

With Proton, DRB will be in trouble although it is a separate subsidiary and can be left to rot. Does it want to do that?

If there is a deal which is fair to DRB, then possibly the group could be worth much more than today - but that is still far from the case.

Perhaps, it needs a "Lim Kang Hoo" to show the way...

Far from it

Calvin's faith in DRB is holding firm.

DRB's boss Syed Moktar is a very clever UNMO Veteran

I saw PTP acquiring those Gelang Patah lands for I think, about Rm100K per acres near PTP Port. Today they are worth many millions today.

I also saw Syed Moktar took over UM Land which develops Bandar Sri Alam. The Show Office in Bandar Sri Alam is an example of a First Class Company.

And this delay with Geely & PSA might be due to the utilization of Proton City Lands

The land value alone of those 55.44 million sf or 1,200 acres of industrial lands are worth Rm2.5 billions today. Not counting the facilities already built. (If only Felicity knows what facilities Proton built!) DRB already sacrificed the JV with Malakoff to develop solar cells on these prime lands.

Another treasure is LOTUS. How much is LOTUS worth on its own?

Only DRB & Syed Moktar are privy to these real reasons

One more thing.

Just like those who missed Pm Corp just because they thought Pm Corp was only chocolates when Chocolates was only a small part of Pm Corp's overall businesses.

So Proton is only one aspect of DRB

Others are

Puspakom (A Cash Cow)

POS Office (200 year history. Another monopoly. Cash cow.)

Bank Maumalat (Islamic Pawn Shop) Legalized Ah Long like RceCap

11 Pieces of Land banks (Each piece worth multiple millions/ billions)

Resorts

Logistics

Cleantech business

Others. Motorbikes. For modenas, yamaha etc etc

Defense Tanks 8x8 wheels

Others.

So don't be myopic with tunnel vision.

SEE the whole PICTURE

AND THIS YEAR IS GE14 YEAR.

I think since Geely already made a success out of Volvo the next best move would be using LOTUS Technology to capture the Sports Car Market

A normal car made only 6% to 8% while a high performance car can make 16% to 18% profit

And with huge 1 over billion population in China there is economy of scale

So Geely needs Proton's Lotus more than Proton needs Geely

Peugeot is better selling bread & butter cars.

So entering the 10 ASEAN nations without tariff will be an opportune moment to expand into the Far East.

@calvintaneng --
DRBHCOM at 1.40 good to hold? Good to sell (take profit)?
Definitely I won't buy at 1.40

What do you think?

If monday Drb got any sell down I am looking forward to buy more. If you are not comfortable you may consider Dutaland or Cbip as the next thematic play will be CPO due to recurring El Nino next few months

Mulpha 20.5 sen did you buy any?
I bought lorry load. Start selling starting 26.5 sen.

Buy until no more bullets then. So I told one rich Johor buddy to load up. Now when I see him he is grinning from ear to ear.
