VILNIUS, July 30 -- A state of emergency was declared in Lithuania's Vilnius, Akmene, and Joniskis districts on Tuesday due to a heavy storm, the Baltic News Service (BNS) said.

In Vilnius, the storm caused widespread power outages, disrupted water supplies, damaged wastewater disposal systems, and led to traffic disruptions from fallen trees. A landslide on the southern slope of Gediminas Hill on Monday did not threaten the hill's stability, according to the National Museum of Lithuania, which oversees the site.

Vilnius District authorities said that communal institutions in the most affected settlements would ensure the provision of potable water supply and sewage treatment by connecting electric generators to the pumping stations. Social workers will assist vulnerable residents with food, drinking water, and clearing public spaces from fallen trees and branches.

Similarly, Joniskis officials declared a state of emergency due to significant farmers' crop losses. Akmene District also announced a state of emergency as heavy rain and strong winds persist.

The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service reported that Telsiai recorded Lithuania's highest precipitation in 48 hours -- 117.8 millimeters, 140 percent of the July norm.
