NEW YORK, Oct. 9 -- The U.S. dollar advanced in late trading on Wednesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.37 percent to 102.926 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro decreased to 1.0937 U.S. dollars from 1.0972 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound lost to 1.3065 dollars from 1.3092 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 149.36 Japanese yen, higher than 148.36 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar climbed to 0.8609 Swiss francs from 0.8579 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3710 Canadian dollars from 1.3656 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar increased to 10.4004 Swedish Kronor from 10.3520 Swedish Kronor.
