Ukraine’s losses:

On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. After about 1 month, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recorded 2,571 civilian casualties in the country: 977 killed and 1,594 injured. The most recent figure for Ukraine's military losses came from Zelensky on March 12, when he said that about 1,300 Ukrainian servicemen had been killed in action.

More than 600 properties including military bases, high rise residential buildings, 48 schools, 1 theatre and 1 maternity hospital were damaged as shown below.

Economic sanctions on Russia is also hurting ourselves:

Russia is the 3rd largest oil producer in the world. Russia is also one of the largest wheat producers. It export about 10% of the world consumption. As a result of the sanctions, the prices of oil and wheat have shot up to hurt all the consumers.

India and China will benefit from the sanctions on Russia. India recently announced that would continue to buy oil from Russia. China has a long term purchase agreement to buy oil from Russia.

Russian’s losses:

The 40 miles long Russian convoy’s advancement towards Ukraine's capital Kyiv has slowed down due to mechanical problems and fuel supply issues. Many soldiers could die of hunger and cold.

With temperatures set to plunge in Ukraine in the coming days, Russian soldiers in the 40-mile convoy of tanks could freeze to death. Glen Grant, a senior defence expert at the Baltic Security Foundation, told Newsweek that the tanks will turn into huge refrigerators for the Russian army if they are not running the engine.

Ukrainian armed forces claimed that they have destroyed a large Russian landing ship at the port of Berdyansk in southern Ukraine on Thursday.

The port, which had recently been occupied by Russian forces with several Russian warships in dock, was rocked by a series of heavy explosions soon after dawn.

A total of 96 aircraft, 230 artillery pieces, 118 helicopters, 74 MLRS, 476 tanks, 947 vehicles, 60 cisterns, 3 vessels, 21 UAV, 12 special equipment and 44 anti-aircraft warfare systems have also been destroyed by Ukrainian forces so far.

There is no way officially confirm this data, and data on loss on the Ukrainian side is also not clear.

Currently Russia has not been firing missiles so frequently. It looks like Russia has no more firing power. Russia is asking China for help and China is in a dilemma.

Nobody can win in a war of attrition:

It is a war of attrition in which the sustained process of wearing down an opponent so as to force their physical collapse through continuous losses in personnel, equipment and supplies to such an extent that their will to fight collapses.

If nobody can win, how will the war end?

Kurt Volker, former U.S. ambassador to NATO, told CNBC he is optimistic that Russia will be the first to stumble in the war, given the logistical challenges it faces as its invasion drags on — and it has not even begun its assault on the capital Kyiv yet — and the need for more arms and manpower.

“I think the way it ends is the Russians exhaust themselves,” Volker told CNBC on Friday. “And whether it’s Putin or whether it’s people around Putin, they’ll end up settling.”

“Ukrainians are feeling very confident and their demand is that the Russians leave their country and I think they’re going to stick to that. I don’t think Russia will be able to sustain the invasion. So, I think it continues like this for a while, and then I think it ends up favouring a Russian withdrawal,” Volker said.

My opinion and proposal for peace:

Since Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February, US President Joe Biden and allies have been sending weapons and money to help Ukraine to fight the Russians. In the last few days Joe Biden has been visiting a few of NATO countries before attending the NATO summit on 24 March.

In fact, the secretary General of NATO convened an extraordinary meeting of Allied Heads of State and Government on 24 March 2022 at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. They have decided to help Ukraine with more weapons to fight the Russians.

After the NATO summit, US President is now visiting Poland to meet the 40,000 US troops to fight the Russians in case the war is spilled over to Poland.

Apparently, all the member countries of NATO are so determined to help Ukraine to fight the Russians to prolong the war. As I said before “nobody can win in a war of attrition”.

Why don’t they encourage Ukraine to talk peace with Russia?

Putin wants 3 things to end the war:

First, he wants Ukraine to stop fighting immediately.

Second, he wants assured neutrality of Ukraine, i.e., they agree never to join NATO or the EU. He wants this placed in the Ukrainian constitution.

Third, he wants Ukraine to recognize Russian ownership of the Crimea.

Both countries Ukraine and Russia can save human lives and properties as soon as they stop fighting.

No wonder ukrainians pick a comedian to be their president, because if he is killed, Ukraine doesn't lose anything! On the other hand, ukrainians prove to be very patriotic! Their fighting spirit is damn strong! Putin made a huge blunder thinking Ukraine is just like Syria or Cremia! Guess he is paying the price!

The winner is US. Their objective is to stop Nordstream II. They got Germany to buy their expensive gas. They manage to undermine Russia's economy and keep Russia away from Europe. Russia's future is with Asia, not Europe. Russia tried to join NATO in the past but was rejected. The US fear it could no longer control Europe.

When Putin wanted to join NATO, he wasn't serious. He wanted to jump queue and did not want to wait in line. He wanted to be a VIP in NATO.

Just like when you go to immigration (before one can apply online) to apply for a passport. You called up the immigration saying "unless you can guarantee that I don't need to wait for a single second to be approved, I will apply". It was meant to be political tactic.

You are right sir. Biden called Putin a butcher. But isn't those US Presidents who preside over the carpet bombing Iraq, Yugoslavia ... where lots of innocent civilians are treated as collateral damage qualifies for this title ?? That is why most nations prefers neutrality.
