KUALA LUMPUR: Several Umno lawmakers have come out to support the leadership of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to serve his full term as Prime Minister until the next general election.

Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) said any plot to form a "backdoor" government will not bring any benefit especially to the economy and the youth.

"At the moment, we want clear policies that will bring direct benefit to the younger generation.

"We hope Pakatan Harapan leaders will focus on governing the country instead of thinking about the transition of power," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby on Thursday (Oct 24).

Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid (BN-Kuala Kangsar) said Dr Mahathir and his coalition were elected by the rakyat who want stability until the next general election.

"We cannot deny that he was chosen by the people so he should continue to lead," added Mastura.

Datuk Ahmad Nazlan Idris (BN-Jerantut) said Pakatan leaders should stop any polemic to call for a power transition.

"If the fight for power continues, I am afraid that the country will not be stable politically and the people will be unhappy," he said.

Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohamad (BN-Lipis) said despite being an opposition lawmaker, he had no other choice but to support the leadership of Dr Mahathir as Prime Minister to ensure political stability.

"This is not just about domestic matter, but we also are thinking about international challenges like the calls to boycott our palm oil products.

"We need a leadership that can guarantee stability.

"Please do not destabilise his leadership so he can carry out his duties effectively," he said.

Maran MP Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Abdul Muttalib (BN-Maran) said Dr Mahathir still has many promises that he needs to fulfil to the people under the Pakatan government.

"So it is the responsibility of the government of the day to implement their policies and solve their problems.

"So, there are no concrete reasons to ask him to step down as the Prime Minister," he said.

Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba (BN-Tenggara) said it is a waste of time for Pakatan to keep discussing who should take over as it brings no benefit to the rakyat.

On Wednesday, PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said Dr Mahathir should be allowed to complete his full term as Prime Minister to respect the people's wishes.

"I challenge anyone to publicly declare that there is an agreement of a set date (for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to take over as Prime Minister). There is none," he said.

Annuar Musa if join Bersatu will become ordinary member unlike in UMNO as Sec-Gen. He saw what happened to Tok Pa and former Puteri Umno chief.

Same thing apply to Azmin Ali. PKR Azmin Ali is deputy President but no such vacancy in Bersatu if he joins.
